All non-recyclable and non-compostable waste belongs here. Carts must be stored out of public view when it is not collection day. Lids must close completely to avoid overfill penalties.

Yard Waste Bin
To reduce odors and pests, Chino Hills recommends placing food waste into a brown paper bag before dropping it into the green-lidded organics cart. Never use plastic bags.

Bulky Item Pickup
Frequency
Three (3) free pickups per calendar year.
Placement
Items must be placed curbside by 6:00 a.m. on the morning of your regular collection day. They must be scheduled 24 to 48 hours in advance depending on if you call or book online.

The three annual pickups are free. Additional pickups beyond the first three will incur a nominal fee charged by Waste Management.
Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If a designated holiday falls on a weekday, residential collection is delayed by one day for the remainder of that week. Normal service resumes the following week.
Yard Waste Exception
Organics and recycling follow the exact same holiday delay schedule as standard trash collection.
If the holiday falls on a weekend, your collection schedule remains completely unaffected.

Keep plastic bags out of the blue lid cart
Plastic bags and film are the number one contaminant in the recycling stream because they jam the sorting machinery. Always put your loose plastic grocery bags in the black lid trash cart.
Never overfill your containers
Do not pack your bins so tightly that the materials cannot fall out freely when the automated arm tips them. Furthermore, the lid must be completely closed. WM cameras will flag open lids for overfill charges.
Use paper bags for food scraps
While organic material goes into the green lid cart, you should not toss loose, wet food scraps directly onto the bottom if you want to avoid odors. Contain them inside a standard brown paper bag first.
Seasonal Information
Winter
December - JanuaryHoliday tree recycling begins the day after Christmas and runs for three weeks. Residents can chop bare trees and place them in the green organics cart, or leave them on the ground next to the bins. Trees over six feet must be cut in half. Flocked trees must go in the trash.
Year-Round
January - DecemberHazardous waste drops are exclusively held on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Plan your garage cleanouts accordingly, as WM will not accept liquid paints or chemicals curbside.
Spring/Summer
April - SeptemberIf you are tackling large landscaping projects, remember you can request one of your three annual bulky item pickups to specifically haul away up to 10 extra bags of yard waste instead of old furniture.

Navigating the Dark Grey Cart System in Chino Hills
Residential waste collection in Chino Hills is managed exclusively by Waste Management (WM). The city uses a uniform cart system where all bins feature a dark grey body to blend into the neighborhoods, distinguished only by their colored lids. The Black lid is for regular trash, the Blue lid is for recycling, and the Green lid is for organics. To guarantee service, residents must place carts at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on their scheduled collection day, ensuring they are not visible from the street earlier than 24 hours prior to pickup.
Avoiding Fines with WM Smart Truck Technology
Chino Hills rigorously enforces California's SB 1383 mandates. To comply, Waste Management utilizes Smart Truck Technology with onboard cameras to monitor recycling and organics carts for both contamination and overfilling. If non-acceptable materials are spotted in the wrong bin, or if a lid cannot close completely due to excess waste, WM will issue a notice to correct. Repeated infractions will result in contamination or overage penalties added directly to your waste bill.
Maximizing Your Free Bulky Item Collections
Chino Hills residents enjoy one of the most generous bulky item programs in the region. Each household is entitled to three free bulky item pickups per calendar year. During each scheduled pickup, you can place up to ten (10) bulky items—such as couches, refrigerators, and electronics—or up to ten (10) bags of yard waste at the curb. You must contact WM at least 48 hours in advance online, or 24 hours by phone, to reserve a spot on the route.
Free Backyard Valet Service for Eligible Residents
Recognizing that moving 95-gallon carts can be challenging for some, Waste Management provides a free Backyard/Valet Service for qualified disabled residents in Chino Hills. With this service, WM drivers will retrieve the carts from a mutually agreed-upon designated location, empty them at the curb, and return them. To qualify for this complimentary assistance, there must not be any non-disabled individuals residing in the home.
