Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If a holiday falls on a weekday, collections for the rest of the week will be pushed back a day (e.g., Thursday service moves to Friday). If the holiday falls on a weekend, there are no delays.
Yard Waste Exception
Organics and recycling follow the exact same holiday delay schedule as regular trash.
Note that while the City of Chino delays street sweeping for Good Friday, Waste Management does NOT delay trash collection for Good Friday.

!Contamination Tips
No 'Compostable' Plastics
Even if they are marketed as 'biodegradable' or 'compostable,' bioplastic serveware and bags do not break down fast enough in local commercial composting facilities. Do not place them in the green organics cart.
Paper Bags Only for Food Scraps
If you want to line your kitchen compost pail to keep it clean, you cannot use plastic bags. You must use plain paper bags, or alternatively, freeze your scraps until your collection day to reduce odors.
Keep Plastic Film Out of the Blue Bin
Plastic grocery bags and shrink wrap tangle around the spinning gears at the recycling facility, causing dangerous shutdowns. If you collect your recyclables in a plastic bag, empty them loosely into the blue cart and throw the bag in the trash.

Late December to JanuaryWaste Management will collect and recycle live holiday trees for two weeks following Christmas at no additional charge. Place the natural tree at the curb on your regular collection day. Remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, and stands.

In compliance with California's SB 1383 mandate to reduce landfill methane emissions, Chino residents are required to separate all organic waste from their regular trash. Your green yard waste cart is now a full organics cart. This means all food scraps—including meat, bones, dairy, coffee grounds, and eggshells—along with food-soiled paper like greasy pizza boxes and napkins, must go into the green cart alongside your grass clippings and leaves to be composted into nutrient-rich fertilizer.
Free Kitchen Pails for Easy Food Scrap Sorting
To help residents adapt to the new organics recycling rules, the City of Chino offers free kitchen counter pails. You can pick one up in person at the Utility Billing Counter located at City Hall (13220 Central Ave) by showing proof of Chino residency, such as a driver's license or utility bill. Alternatively, you can request a pail by emailing [email protected] with your name, address, and phone number.
Smart Truck Technology and Contamination Monitoring
To ensure compliance with state recycling laws, Waste Management utilizes advanced Smart Truck technology on its collection routes in Chino. These trucks are equipped with cameras that photograph the contents of your carts as they are emptied. If the cameras detect severe contamination—such as plastic bags in the organics cart or unflattened cardboard causing the lid to stay open—photographic evidence is logged, and a contamination or overfilled cart fee may be applied to your bill.
Coordinating with Odd/Even Street Sweeping
Chino conducts residential street sweeping twice a month, utilizing an odd/even schedule to efficiently clean the gutters. Because street sweepers cannot navigate around bulky objects, it is crucial that residents pull their emptied trash carts back from the curb promptly after collection.
