Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If your regular collection day falls on or after an observed holiday, service will be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week (e.g., Friday collection moves to Saturday).
Yard Waste Exception
Organics and recycling follow the exact same holiday delay schedule as the trash service.
Recology Dixon operates on a normal schedule for all other holidays, including Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. Place your carts out as usual on these days.

Keep Plastic Bags Out of the Blue Cart
The most common recycling contaminant is the plastic garbage bag. Never bag your recyclables. Plastic film wraps around the gears at the sorting facility, causing equipment damage and delays.
No Tanglers in the Trash
Garden hoses, electrical cords, and wire fencing—common items in suburban and semi-rural areas—are considered 'tanglers.' Keep them out of the recycling bin. If they cannot be donated, they belong in the grey trash cart.
E-Waste is Banned from Carts
Electronic waste, including old TVs, computers, and batteries, contains hazardous heavy metals. Never throw them in any of your curbside carts. Schedule a bulky pickup or take them to a designated e-waste drop-off.

Winter Holidays
Late December to Mid-JanuaryRecology Dixon offers curbside Christmas tree recycling after the holidays. Trees must be free of all ornaments, tinsel, lights, and stands. Flocked trees are not accepted in the organics cart and must be treated as trash. Cut trees over 6 feet in half.
Autumn Leaf Drop
October to DecemberDuring the fall, heavy leaf drop can overwhelm green carts. Remember to keep leaves out of street gutters to prevent storm drain blockages. If you have excess yard waste, contact Recology regarding additional cart options or drop-off procedures.

In accordance with California’s SB 1383 climate law, Dixon residents are required to separate all organic waste from their regular household trash. The green organics cart is no longer just for yard trimmings—it is the designated container for all food scraps, including meat, bones, dairy, and food-soiled paper. Diverting these materials to a composting facility significantly reduces methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas.
Bi-Annual Bulky Waste Collection Program
To help residents manage large household cleanouts and prevent illegal dumping in surrounding agricultural areas, Recology Dixon provides two free bulky item pickups per calendar year. This convenient on-call service allows single-family households to dispose of up to two cubic yards of material, or specific large items like appliances and furniture, directly from the curb.
Safe Disposal of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)
Dixon residents must never place hazardous materials—such as paint, motor oil, pesticides, or lithium-ion batteries—into their curbside carts. While there is no permanent HHW facility within Dixon's immediate city limits, residents can utilize the nearby Recology Vacaville Vallejo facility on specific days, or participate in periodic Solano County HHW drop-off events to ensure toxic substances are handled safely.
