Holiday Schedule
General Rule
El Dorado Disposal runs regular routes on almost all holidays (including Thanksgiving and July 4th). Service is ONLY delayed if your collection day falls on or after Christmas Day or New Year's Day.
Yard Waste Exception
Bi-weekly recycling and yard waste routes follow the exact same Christmas and New Year's one-day delay schedule.
If a major holiday falls on a weekend, your weekday collection schedule will likely remain unaffected.

Use Only Green Compostable Bags
If you choose to bag your kitchen food scraps before placing them in the organics cart, you must use BPI-certified compostable bags that are GREEN in color. This helps drivers easily verify that the bags do not contain regular trash.
Keep Electronics Out of All Carts
E-waste like old laptops, computer monitors, and televisions contain toxic heavy metals. Never place these items in your trash or recycling bins. They must be taken to the Material Recovery Facility for proper disposal.
Proper Oil Disposal
Motor oil cannot go in your household bins, but El Dorado Disposal offers a curbside pickup option. You must call customer service to receive specialized containers; once filled, secure them and schedule a separate pickup.

While standard garbage is collected on a weekly basis, recycling and green organics carts operate on an alternating bi-weekly schedule. Residents are encouraged to utilize the El Dorado Disposal mobile app to track which cart—blue or green—should be wheeled to the curb alongside the trash cart each week.
SB 1383 Compliance and BPI Green Bags
In alignment with California's SB 1383 organics mandate, El Dorado Hills homeowners must divert all food scraps from the landfill. Items like meat, bones, dairy, and coffee grounds can be placed directly into your green-lidded yard waste cart. For odor control, El Dorado Disposal permits the use of compostable bags, provided they are BPI-certified and specifically GREEN in color, which helps drivers quickly distinguish them from standard plastic garbage bags.
Wildfire Preparation and Defensible Space
Because El Dorado Hills is nestled in the foothills, maintaining defensible space against wildfires is a critical community priority. Beyond standard curbside organics collection, the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council often collaborates with El Dorado Disposal to host Community Clean-Up Days. During these events, massive roll-off dumpsters are provided for residents to dispose of excess brush, overgrown blackberry bushes, and large branches that won't fit into the standard 96-gallon green carts.
Handling Extra Trash and Weather Delays
If you generate more garbage than your cart can hold, leaving extra bags next to the bin will not guarantee pickup. Additionally, during extreme foothill weather events like high winds or rare snow, public safety protocols may trigger 'Weather Delays.' When safe route access is compromised, drivers will attempt collection on the following business day.

Are there trash delays for Thanksgiving or Labor Day in El Dorado Hills?
No. El Dorado Disposal collects trash, recycling, and yard waste on all holidays except for Christmas Day and New Year's Day. For those two holidays only, service is pushed back by one day for the remainder of the week.
Can I put food waste in my green yard waste cart?
Yes. To comply with SB 1383, you must put food scraps like meat, bones, dairy, and vegetables into your green cart. You can place them loosely or use BPI-certified compostable bags, as long as the bags are green.
How often is my recycling and yard waste picked up?
While your regular household garbage is collected every week, El Dorado Disposal picks up recycling and organics (yard/food waste) on an alternating bi-weekly schedule. You will set out your trash and blue cart one week, and your trash and green cart the next.
What should I do if my trash cart is full and I have extra bags?
