Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If a recognized holiday falls on a weekday, all curbside collection services for the remainder of that week will be delayed by one day. For instance, Thursday collections will move to Friday.
Yard Waste Exception
This one-day delay applies to all collection carts, including trash, recycling, and organics.
If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, there are no service delays to the regular weekday pickup schedule.
Observed Holidays
!Contamination Tips
Keep Plastic Bags Out of the Blue Cart
Never bag your recyclables in plastic trash bags, and do not put loose plastic grocery bags in the blue cart. They wrap around and jam the mechanical gears at the Republic Services recycling sorting facility.
Batteries Cause Truck Fires
Never toss batteries (especially lithium-ion batteries from electronics) into your curbside carts. They are highly combustible when crushed in a garbage truck. Utilize LA County Household Hazardous Waste collection events instead.
How to Handle Shredded Paper
While most paper should go loosely into the blue recycling cart, shredded paper is the exception. To prevent it from blowing away and creating litter, place shredded paper inside a sealed paper bag before tossing it in the blue cart.

About Florence-Graham Waste Management
Florence-Graham's Garbage Disposal District Structure
Because Florence-Graham is an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County, it does not have its own municipal sanitation department. Instead, it operates within the Florence / Firestone / Willowbrook Garbage Disposal District (GDD). Solid waste services are administered by the LA County Department of Public Works and executed through an exclusive contract with Republic Services (operating as Consolidated Disposal Services). Residents automatically receive these services, with base fees collected via annual Los Angeles County property taxes.
Mandatory Organics Recycling (SB 1383)
In alignment with the Los Angeles County Mandatory Organic Waste Disposal Reduction Ordinance and state law SB 1383, all Florence-Graham residents and businesses must participate in organics recycling. The green organics cart is designated for all yard trimmings, plant matter, and food scraps, including meat, dairy, fruits, and vegetables. By diverting this organic material from regional landfills, the community plays a vital role in reducing the emission of harmful methane gases and mitigating climate change impacts.
Robust Bulky Item and E-Waste Collection
A major perk of living within the Florence/Firestone GDD is the generous, free bulky item and electronic waste (e-waste) pickup program. By calling Republic Services, residents can schedule the curbside removal of large items such as furniture, mattresses, refrigerators, and up to 10 e-waste items per pickup. Additionally, the hauler will collect up to 60 pounds of do-it-yourself construction and demolition debris generated on-site, a service rarely offered for free in neighboring jurisdictions.
Annual Curbside Clean-Up Campaigns
To help keep the neighborhoods of Florence-Graham clean and discourage illegal dumping, Republic Services partners with LA County to host Annual Clean-Up Campaigns. Typically held on designated Saturdays during April, May, or the early summer months, these events allow residents to set out an unlimited number of large household discards, excess trash, and bulky items at their regular collection site without needing to schedule an appointment beforehand.
