Holiday Schedule

General Rule

If an observed holiday falls on a weekday, your regular collection day will be delayed by one day for the remainder of that holiday week.

Yard Waste Exception

The one-day holiday delay applies equally to all residential bins: trash, recycling, and organics.

If a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, there is no service delay and your regular pickup schedule remains unchanged.

!Contamination Tips

Keep Plastic Film Out of the Blue Bin

Never place plastic grocery bags, bubble wrap, or shrink wrap into the blue recycling cart. These thin plastics easily get tangled in the mechanical sorting gears at the Materials Recovery Facility. Return them to local grocery stores instead.

Palm Fronds Are Not Organics

Although they grow in your yard, palm fronds are extremely fibrous and cannot be broken down properly in municipal composting facilities. Always throw palm fronds into the black trash cart.

Do Not Hide E-Waste

Never place electronic waste like old cell phones, batteries, or laptops into any of the three carts. The batteries can ignite when compressed in the collection truck. Instead, utilize your unlimited free curbside e-waste pickups.

Seasonal Information

Winter

December - January

Valley Vista Services offers free curbside holiday tree recycling from December 26 through approximately January 10. Remove all ornaments, stands, tinsel, and garlands. Flocked trees cannot be composted and must be disposed of as trash. Trees over 6 feet tall must be cut in half.

Spring

March - May

During occasional heavy spring rainstorms, keep your carts at least two feet away from the curb to prevent them from blocking stormwater runoff or being washed away into the street.

Autumn

September - November

If fall pruning leaves you with more green waste than your cart can hold, remember that you can request an additional green organics cart from VVS completely free of charge to help manage the seasonal volume.

About Huntington Park Waste Management

Standardized Three-Cart System by Valley Vista Services

In Huntington Park, residential waste collection is exclusively managed by Valley Vista Services (VVS). Every household is provided with a standard set of three 96-gallon automated carts for refuse, commingled recyclables, and green waste. If 96 gallons is too large for your household, you can request to downsize to 64-gallon or 35-gallon carts. Additionally, residents who need more capacity for recycling or organics can request extra blue and green carts completely free of charge.

Stringent SB 1383 Organic Waste Compliance

Huntington Park strictly enforces California's SB 1383 mandate to combat climate change. All residents and businesses are required to divert organic materials away from local landfills. By placing your food scraps and yard trimmings into the green organics cart, VVS ensures these materials are transported to specialized composting or anaerobic digestion facilities, where they are converted into renewable natural gas and nutrient-rich soil amendments.

Unlimited Curbside E-Waste and Free Sharps Disposal

Disposing of hazardous electronics and medical waste is highly convenient in Huntington Park. Rather than waiting for a regional drop-off event, residents receive unlimited, on-call curbside electronic waste collection for items like computers and televisions. Furthermore, for those who use medical needles at home, VVS provides free FDA-approved sharps mail-back containers upon request, ensuring safe disposal through the mail.

Roll-Out Services for the Elderly and Disabled

The city and Valley Vista Services are committed to making sanitation accessible for everyone. Qualifying elderly residents or customers with certified disabilities—who do not have an able-bodied person living in their household—can apply for free "roll-out" or "walk-out" service. VVS drivers will manually retrieve the bins from your property, empty them, and return them, saving you the physical strain of moving heavy carts to the curb.
