Holiday Schedule
General Rule
When an observed holiday falls on a weekday, trash and recycling collection for the remainder of that week will be delayed by one day.
Yard Waste Exception
The Green cart (organics and yard waste) follows the exact same one-day holiday delay schedule as the standard trash and recycling bins.
There is no service interruption or delay when the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday. Place your carts out on your normal scheduled day.

Bag Food Waste, but Keep Yard Waste Loose
In Jurupa Valley, Burrtec requires you to bag your food scraps to control odors and pests in the Green cart. However, regular yard trimmings like grass and leaves should always be tossed in loose.
Palm Fronds Belong in the Trash
Desert plants like palm fronds, cacti, and yuccas are too fibrous to break down in commercial composting facilities. Never place them in your Green cart; toss them in your Black trash cart instead.
Ditch the Plastic Bags in the Blue Cart
Never bundle your clean recyclables inside a plastic garbage bag. Plastic film wraps around the sorting gears at the Material Recovery Facility, causing major equipment jams. Keep recyclables loose.

Late December to early JanuaryBurrtec offers curbside Christmas tree recycling after the holidays. Trees must be completely bare (no tinsel, ornaments, or stands). If a tree is taller than six feet, it must be cut in half before being placed at the curb.
