Holiday Schedule

General Rule

If your regular collection day falls on or after Christmas Day or New Year's Day, your service will be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week. Note that Thanksgiving does not delay curbside collection.

Yard Waste Exception

Yard waste and organic collection follow the exact same holiday delay schedule as regular garbage and recycling.

While collection trucks still run on Thanksgiving, the local Recology customer service offices are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

!Contamination Tips

Avoid the Contamination Fee

Recology Yuba-Sutter enforces a strict policy to ensure recycling streams remain clean. If prohibited items are found in your blue or green carts, you could face contamination service charges of approximately $8.00 per recycling cart and $16.00 per organics cart.

Keep Plastic Bags Out of Blue Carts

Never bag your recyclables. Thin film plastics and grocery bags tangle in the sorting machinery at the Material Recovery Facility. Always place your approved plastics, metals, and glass loosely in the blue bin.

Battery Disposal Protocol

Household batteries, especially lithium-ion varieties, are extremely dangerous if tossed into regular garbage or recycling carts because they can easily spark fires in the collection trucks. Take them to the Yuba-Sutter Household Hazardous Waste Facility instead.

Seasonal Information

Winter

December - January

Following the holidays, Recology offers curbside Christmas tree collection. Trees must be unflocked, free of decorations and stands, and cut into manageable pieces (under 6 feet) before being placed next to or inside your green organic waste cart.

Summer

June - August

The intense Yuba County summer heat can quickly cause food scraps in your green organics cart to smell. Minimize odors and deter pests by keeping your cart in a shaded area and rinsing out meat packaging before tossing it in the trash.

About Linda Waste Management

Comprehensive Waste Management in Linda

Residents of Linda, an unincorporated community in Yuba County, receive comprehensive trash, recycling, and organic waste services through Recology Yuba-Sutter. This franchised hauler manages the collection across the region, providing every single-family home with a three-cart system to make sorting simple and effective. Meeting California's strict environmental regulations is a community effort, and Linda's residential programs are designed to keep as much reusable material out of the Ostrom Road Landfill as possible.

Understanding Your Three-Cart System

In Linda, the standard waste setup includes a blue cart for recyclables, a green cart for organics and yard clippings, and a gray or black cart for remaining refuse. The base rate for collection typically includes a 32-gallon trash cart alongside standard recycling and organic bins. For households that generate more waste, you can request cart size upgrades—such as 64-gallon or 96-gallon refuse carts—for a small additional monthly fee by contacting Recology customer service.

Organics Recycling and SB 1383 Compliance

To comply with California's SB 1383 mandate, all Linda residents are required to participate in organics recycling. This means all food scraps, food-soiled paper products, and landscaping debris must be placed in the green organics cart rather than the regular garbage. Proper separation helps produce valuable compost and drastically reduces the emission of methane gases from local landfills.

Bulky Item Services and Transfer Station Access

If you are upgrading furniture or doing a major spring cleaning, Linda residents have access to two free bulky item pickups per calendar year. For those who prefer hauling their own excess waste or who have used up their curbside pickups, the nearby Marysville Transfer Station serves as the primary drop-off point. Single-family residential customers can even pick up to 50 gallons of finished compost for free twice a year at the transfer station by bringing their own hand tools and containers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I dispose of an old mattress in Linda?

You can either schedule one of your two free annual bulky item pickups by calling Recology Yuba-Sutter, or you can transport the mattress directly to the Marysville Transfer Station for proper recycling.

What happens if my recycling or organics cart is contaminated?

The Regional Waste Management Authority and Recology actively monitor carts for contamination. If your blue or green bin contains non-accepted items, you may be issued a warning and subsequently charged a contamination fee (approximately $8 for a recycling cart and $16 for an organics cart).

How do I request a larger garbage cart if 32 gallons isn't enough?

If you regularly have excess trash, you can call Recology customer service at (530) 743-6933 to upgrade your standard 32-gallon refuse cart to a 64-gallon or 96-gallon size for a small additional monthly fee.

Are plastic bags allowed in the blue recycling bin?

No. Plastic grocery bags, garbage bags, and film plastics are strictly prohibited in the blue recycling cart because they jam the mechanical processing equipment at the sorting facility. Place all recyclables loose in the bin.
