Florida residential routes generally operate Monday through Friday. Your specific household collection depends on your local county zoning map.

All trash must be bagged and placed inside the green cart. Carts must be curbside by 7:00 a.m. with wheels facing your home and positioned at least three feet from mailboxes or vehicles.

Horticultural debris is collected on your recycling day, not regular trash days. Branches must be tied, under 4 feet in length, under 4 inches in diameter, and weigh less than 50 lbs.

Placement

Holiday Schedule
General Rule
Trash and recycling collections occur on almost all holidays (including Thanksgiving, New Year's Day, and July 4th). Service is only suspended on Christmas Day.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste follows the same holiday schedule. It is collected on all holidays except Christmas.
If your scheduled service falls on Christmas Day, it will simply roll over to your next regularly scheduled pick-up day later that week.

Never Bag Your Recyclables
Keep your recycling loose. Plastic grocery bags and garbage liners tangle in the gears of the Material Recovery Facility, causing costly delays. If you bag your recyclables, WM may leave your cart unemptied.
Prevent Garbage Truck Fires
Lithium-ion batteries from electronics, pool chemicals, and motor oil should never be tossed into your green trash cart. Under the pressure of the truck's compactor, these items can ignite, causing dangerous and surprisingly common truck fires.
No Hot Coals or Ashes
After a weekend barbecue, ensure your grill ashes or coals are completely extinguished and cold to the touch for at least 48 hours before throwing them away. Smoldering coals easily melt the new green WM carts.

Hurricane Season
June to NovemberAdhere strictly to the City of Parkland's Hurricane Policy. Once a tropical storm watch is issued, immediately cease placing bulk items, patio furniture, and loose yard debris at the curb, as high winds turn these objects into severe hazards.
Spring Landscaping
March to MayIf you are heavily pruning trees, remember that logs and large stumps are not accepted on regular yard waste days. These oversized items must wait for your scheduled monthly bulk pickup and be neatly placed at the curb.
Winter Holidays
DecemberChristmas Day is the only day of the year Waste Management halts collection in Parkland. If your collection day falls on Christmas, do not set carts out; they will be collected on your next regularly scheduled pickup day.

Automated Waste Collection in Parkland
In a major upgrade to residential services, the City of Parkland and Waste Management (WM) transitioned to an automated collection system utilizing cleaner, quieter compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks. Residents are provided with uniform 96-gallon green carts specifically designed for the mechanical lifting arms. If a 96-gallon cart is too large for your household, WM allows residents to seamlessly exchange it for a more compact 65-gallon version.
No Limit on Curbside Garbage Capacity
Unlike many municipalities that strictly cap weekly household garbage, Parkland offers incredible flexibility. There is no limit to the number of green WM carts you can place at the curb, provided you purchase the additional carts through WM. Furthermore, the city maintains a specialized once-per-week overflow route to pick up any excess bagged solid waste or bundled horticultural debris that cannot fit into your designated carts.
The 15-Cubic-Yard Monthly Bulk Allowance
Parkland provides a highly generous bulk trash allowance of up to 15 cubic yards per residence every month. This is ideal for major cleanouts or discarding large furniture. An interesting local quirk: if you have an old, non-WM garbage can that you want thrown away, you simply leave it on its side during your designated bulk collection day, signaling the driver to dispose of it.
Cooperative Hazardous Waste Disposal Program
Because Parkland does not host its own dedicated permanent facility for household hazardous waste, the city participates in a unique cooperative agreement with eight other Broward County municipalities. Parkland residents are not capped at a single bin. You can request and purchase additional green WM carts for a one-time fee of $100 each, with no limit on the number of carts you can put out. How do I get rid of an old refrigerator or freezer in Parkland?
