Holiday Schedule

General Rule

On weeks with observed holidays, the scheduled weekly collection day will generally be shifted by one day for the remainder of the week (e.g., Thursday pickup moves to Friday).

Yard Waste Exception

Since containerized yard waste is picked up on the same day as regular garbage, it follows the exact same holiday shifting schedule.

Residents will receive a paper Refuse and Recycling Guide mailed in December detailing the exact holiday shifts for the upcoming year.

!Contamination Tips

Keep Recyclables Loose

Never put your recyclables inside plastic grocery bags or garbage bags. All approved materials must be tossed into the blue-lidded cart completely loose. Bagged recyclables often end up in the landfill because sorting facilities cannot open them.

Break Down All Cardboard

Titusville will not collect cardboard boxes left on the ground next to your carts. All cardboard must be broken down, flattened, and placed entirely inside the recycling cart with the lid completely closed.

No Construction Materials in Carts

Do not place dirt, rocks, concrete, or hot ashes into your regular garbage cart. These heavy items can damage the cart, exceed the 250-pound weight limit, and break the automated lifting arms on the garbage trucks.

Seasonal Information

Post-Holiday Overflows

July, November, December

Titusville grants an exception to its strict 'no bags outside the cart' rule for the week immediately following Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the 4th of July. During these weeks, you may place up to two extra bags of trash next to your bin.

Hurricane Season

June - November

If a severe storm or hurricane strikes the Space Coast, the Solid Waste Division will announce special collection schedules for massive yard debris and storm damage. Do not mix construction debris with vegetative debris during these special cleanups.

Spring Cleaning

March - May

As you tackle major yard overhauls in the spring, remember that while small containerized yard waste is picked up weekly, massive piles of branches require you to call the city in advance to schedule a claw truck.

About Titusville Waste Management

Automated Waste Collection in the Space Coast

Titusville utilizes a fully automated cart system to keep the Space Coast clean and efficient. Residents receive a city-issued garbage cart and a recycling cart with a distinct blue lid. Trash is collected once a week, while recycling is serviced biweekly. To ensure seamless automated pickup, carts must be placed at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on your collection day with a strict 6-foot clearance from mailboxes and trees, and at least 10 feet away from parked vehicles.

Containerized Yard Debris Management

Unlike municipalities that require separate specialized yard waste services, Titusville streamlines the process. Containerized yard debris and small piles are collected on the exact same day as your regular household garbage. Residents are permitted to use standard plastic or paper bags for yard trimmings. However, if you have generated a large pile of debris that exceeds standard limits, you must contact the Solid Waste Division to request a specialized pickup.

The Cart Capacity and Overflow Policies

Titusville enforces a strict "in-the-cart" policy for daily refuse. Carts cannot be filled in excess of 250 pounds, and all household garbage must be bagged before being placed inside. The city does not collect loose bags or cardboard boxes placed outside the cart during normal weeks. However, the city grants leniency following Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the 4th of July, allowing households to set out up to two additional bags of refuse completely free of charge.

Scheduling Residential Bulky Item Pickups

If you are upgrading your furniture or cleaning out the garage, Titusville offers a reliable bulky item collection service for objects that cannot fit into the standard carts. Items like couches, mattresses, and appliances will not be picked up automatically with regular trash. Residents must proactively call the Solid Waste Division at 321-383-5755 to be added to the bulky pickup list. Please note that boxed waste and extra bags of standard garbage do not qualify for this service.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get rid of an old mattress in Titusville?

Mattresses and other large furniture items will not be collected with your regular automated trash service. You must call the Solid Waste Division directly at 321-383-5755 to request to be put on the residential bulky item pickup list.

What should I do if my city-issued garbage cart breaks?

If your cart's wheels, axles, or lid breaks due to normal wear and tear, contact the Solid Waste Division. The city will deploy a technician to repair or replace the cart free of charge. However, keeping the cart clean remains your responsibility.

Can I leave extra bags of garbage next to my bin if it's full?

Generally, no. Titusville enforces a strict "out-of-cart" ban, and any extra bags left on the ground will be ignored. The only exception is the week immediately following Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the 4th of July, when two extra bags are allowed.

Do I have to buy special paper bags for yard waste?

No. In Titusville, you are permitted to containerize your yard clippings, leaves, and small twigs in either standard plastic trash bags or paper bags. These will be picked up on your normal garbage day.
