General Rule
If a holiday falls on or before your collection day, services are delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Collections occurring before the holiday remain unchanged.
Yard Waste Exception
City-operated brush and bulk collections typically follow the same holiday delay schedule as the Amwaste garbage routes.
For example, if Christmas is on a Tuesday, Monday routes run normally, but Tuesday through Friday routes will all run one day late.

!Contamination Tips
Don't Leave Overflow Next to the Cart
Amwaste trucks operate using automated arms. Any large boxes or extra trash bags placed next to or leaning against your cart will not be picked up. If you consistently have too much waste, contact the city for a second cart.
Safely Package Glass Doors
If you are disposing of glass doors or large mirrors during bulk pickup, the city requires you to break the glass safely and place the shards inside a sealed cardboard box to protect the collection crews.
Remove Freon from Refrigerators
While appliances are accepted for curbside bulk collection, refrigerators and freezers will be left behind unless they have an official tag proving a certified technician has removed the hazardous Freon gas.
Seasonal Information
Autumn
October to DecemberDuring the heavy leaf-drop months, leaves and grass clippings will still be picked up on your regular collection day. Keep leaf piles out of the streets to prevent localized flooding caused by clogged storm drains.
Major Holidays
Year-RoundIf a major holiday falls on or before your scheduled collection day, your Amwaste pickup will be delayed by one day. If your collection day falls before the holiday, your schedule will not be impacted.
Spring
March to MayHomeowners tackling spring renovations can place DIY construction and demolition debris at the curb for bulk pickup. However, waste generated by hired commercial contractors will not be collected by the city.
About Newnan Waste Management
The One-Bin Solution in Newnan
Starting in 2023, the City of Newnan partnered with Amwaste to introduce an innovative 'One-Bin Solution.' Residents no longer need to separate their recycling from household garbage. All waste and recyclables go directly into a single cart. The collected materials are transported to RePower South, an advanced processing facility that automatically extracts recyclables and converts the remaining organic waste into renewable engineered fuel, significantly reducing landfill dependency.
Guidelines for Amwaste Cart Placement
To ensure efficient automated service, all items must fit entirely within your city-issued Amwaste cart; large boxes or overflow bags placed on the ground will be ignored. Residents are encouraged to bag all their trash before placing it in the cart to prevent littering on windy days. Carts should be placed at the curb with plenty of clearance from mailboxes, trees, and parked vehicles by the morning of your scheduled pickup day.
City-Operated Bulk and Yard Waste Pickups
While Amwaste handles the weekly household garbage, the City of Newnan’s own Public Works department continues to manage brush and bulk item collections. Remarkably, residents do not need to call ahead to schedule standard junk removal. Bulk items like furniture and rolled carpet, as well as yard debris, can simply be placed safely at the curb on your designated collection day. Ensure sidewalks and storm drains are not blocked by your debris.
Preparing Special Items for Bulk Collection
Though Newnan makes bulk disposal easy, there are strict rules for certain items. If you are throwing out glass doors or mirrors, the glass must be safely broken and sealed inside a cardboard box. Appliances are accepted, but refrigerators and freezers must have their Freon professionally removed and tagged by a certified technician before the city will haul them away. Commercial construction debris, bricks, and tires are strictly prohibited from curbside pickup.
Coweta County Transfer Station Services
For items the city won't take, or if you miss your collection day, Newnan residents can utilize the Coweta County Transfer Station on Essie Mae Walker Road. The facility accepts large loads of construction debris, tires (for a fee), and bulky waste. Remember that Coweta County drop-off centers strictly fine anyone who mixes household waste into their designated recycling bins, so ensure your loads are properly sorted before arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to separate my recycling from my trash in Newnan?
No. Starting in 2023, Newnan implemented a 'One-Bin Solution' through Amwaste. You place both your household garbage and recyclables into the same cart. The waste is then transported to the RePower South facility, where recyclables are mechanically separated from the trash.
How do I schedule a bulky item pickup in Newnan?
You do not need to call ahead or schedule a pickup for standard junk. The City of Newnan Public Works department collects bulk waste (like furniture and appliances) and yard debris on your regular weekly collection day. Just place it safely at the curb.
Why didn't Amwaste pick up the cardboard boxes next to my cart?
Amwaste requires all materials to fit completely inside your provided cart so the automated trucks can service them. Any boxes, bags, or items left on the ground next to the cart will be ignored.
How do I dispose of old paint and tires in Newnan?
The city will not collect tires or liquid paint at the curb. Tires can be taken to the Coweta County Transfer Station for a $10 fee per tire. Paint must be completely dried out (using cat litter or sand) until it is solid before the empty/dry cans can be placed in your household trash.
