65-gallon or 95-gallon Groot Toter Bin (Trash)
Place refuse in your Groot toter with the lid tightly closed. Additional bags outside the toter cannot exceed 32 gallons or 50 pounds. Toters must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day but no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before.

Appliance pickups are available at no extra charge but must be pre-scheduled. Large amounts of debris exceeding one cubic yard are billed by the cubic yard. Tube TVs over 50 lbs incur a $50 fee.
Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If an observed holiday falls on or before your scheduled collection day (Monday or Wednesday), service will be delayed by one day for the rest of that week. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, it is observed on Monday.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste collection follows the exact same holiday delay schedule as regular refuse and recycling pickups.

Spring
April - MayStarting April 1st, the unlimited yard waste and composting program resumes. The Village Public Works Department also conducts a zoned Spring Branch Pick-Up Program starting in late April for larger tree branches and shrub trimmings up to 8 inches in diameter.
Summer
AugustThe Village typically hosts an annual recycling and document destruction event on a Saturday in August. Residents can bring up to six banker boxes of paper for secure onsite shredding.
Fall
September - NovemberFall Branch Pick-Up begins in late September and rolls through different zones. November marks the final month for curbside yard waste collection, so be sure to clear all autumn leaves and organic garden debris before November 30th.

Weekly Refuse Collection with Groot Industries
For residents of Hoffman Estates, curbside garbage and recycling services are exclusively contracted through Groot Industries. Because route times can fluctuate based on weather and driver shifts, the village mandates that all containers be placed at the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. on your specific collection morning. However, to keep the suburban streetscapes looking their best, bins cannot be pushed to the street before 6:00 p.m. the night before. Once the Groot trucks have cleared your street, all empty carts must be retrieved and safely stored inside your garage or behind your property line by midnight.
Understanding Cart Sizes and Overflow
Every single-family home in Hoffman Estates is issued standard refuse and recycling carts. The lids must remain completely closed when sitting at the curb to prevent animals from scattering debris across the neighborhood. If you routinely generate more trash than your primary container can hold, you cannot simply leave loose black bags on the parkway. Groot requires residents to purchase prepaid refuse stickers for any extra bags that sit outside the cart. These stickers are available at several local grocery stores and the Village Hall front desk.

Managing Seasonal Yard Waste
The transition into spring brings the start of the landscape waste collection season, which operates from early April through the end of November. Grass clippings, leaves, and soft plant materials must be packed into 30-gallon biodegradable kraft paper bags, and each bag must have a visible Groot yard waste sticker attached. If you prefer, Groot also offers a seasonal subscription for a dedicated yard waste cart, which eliminates the need to buy individual stickers. Normal schedules immediately resume the following Monday. During the first two weeks of January, Groot also provides a free curbside collection for live Christmas trees, provided all tinsel and lights are removed.
