Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If an observed holiday falls on a weekday on or before your regular collection day, your trash, recycling, and yard waste service will be delayed by one day for that week.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste pickups adhere to the same holiday delay schedule during the active season (April through December).
Holidays falling on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday) typically do not disrupt the weekday collection schedule.

!Contamination Tips
Keep Plastic Bags Out
Never bag your recyclables in plastic grocery bags or garbage bags. Plastic film wraps around the gears at the LRS sorting facility, causing equipment damage and delays. Leave items loose in the cart.
Leave Caps and Tabs Attached
Contrary to old recycling rules, LRS asks that you leave caps on plastic bottles and tabs on cans. Simply empty and rinse the container before tossing it in the 65-gallon recycling cart.
No Glass Drinkware or Ceramics
While glass food jars and beverage bottles are perfectly fine, do not recycle window glass, mirrors, coffee pots, bakeware, or ceramic mugs. Their melting points differ from standard container glass.

About Maywood Waste Management
LRS Local Operations in Maywood
Starting in April 2022, Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) took over as the exclusive residential waste hauler for the Village of Maywood. Demonstrating their commitment to the community, LRS established a local operation directly within Maywood. Under this contract, every eligible single-family home is provided with a large 95-gallon waste cart and a 65-gallon recycling cart, prioritizing efficient and standardized curbside collection.
Unlimited Bagged Household Garbage
One of the most generous perks of Maywood's waste program is the allowance for excess trash. If your 95-gallon LRS refuse cart fills up during the week, you do not need to purchase overflow stickers. LRS allows residents to place an unlimited amount of securely tied bags containing standard household waste right next to the cart for collection at no additional charge.
Weekly Free Bulk Item Allowances
While many municipalities restrict bulk waste collection to once a month, Maywood residents enjoy the convenience of weekly disposal. You can place up to two bulk items, such as a piece of furniture or an old chair, out on your regularly scheduled service day for free. However, if the item weighs more than 50 pounds, LRS requests a courtesy call in advance to ensure they dispatch a truck with the proper lifting equipment.
Strict Mattress Wrapping Protocol
To protect sanitation workers from bedbugs and biohazards, all mattresses and box springs must be entirely sealed in plastic before being left at the curb. LRS is remarkably flexible with how you achieve this—if you don't have a commercial mattress bag, they officially accept items wrapped in moving film, a dollar-store plastic tablecloth, or even heavy-duty trash bags cut up and securely taped around the mattress.
Free White Goods and Appliance Pickup
Getting rid of an old refrigerator, oven, or washing machine doesn't have to be a costly headache in Maywood. LRS will collect major appliances (white goods) at no extra charge. The only catch is that this service is strictly by appointment. Residents must email [email protected] or call customer service to get put on the specialized collection schedule.
