If the holiday falls on a weekday on or before your scheduled pickup, collections will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week, with Friday pickups occurring on Saturday.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste follows the exact same holiday delay schedule during the active April to December season.
If a designated holiday falls on a weekend, there is typically no disruption to your standard Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday schedule.
Observed Holidays
!Contamination Tips
Twine Only for Brush Bundles
When putting out your five free weekly brush bundles, make sure they are tied securely with biodegradable twine. Wire or plastic zip ties will result in the bundle being rejected and left at the curb.
Don't Bag Your Recyclables
Never place your recyclables inside plastic grocery or garbage bags. The recycling sorting facility's automated gears cannot handle plastic film, which causes severe mechanical jams.
Keep Leaves Out of the Street
Westmont does not have a curbside loose leaf vacuuming program. Raking leaves into the street or gutters is illegal and may result in a fine, as it clogs the village's storm sewers and causes flooding.
Seasonal Information
Spring
AprilThe Village of Westmont offers one week of free residential leaf collection typically during the first or second week of April. During this specific week, residents can set out unlimited kraft paper bags of leaves for free without needing orange yard waste stickers.
Spring to Fall
April - DecemberThe weekly yard waste, brush, and composting programs actively run from the first full week of April through the second full week of December. Outside this window, organic waste is not collected.
Winter
December - MarchDuring severe Midwestern winter storms, ensure your carts are placed at the end of your driveway rather than in the street so that Westmont Public Works snowplows can safely clear the roadways.
About Westmont Waste Management
Westmont's Zone-Based Waste Collection
In Westmont, Flood Brothers manages residential recycling and waste hauling on a four-day schedule. Single-family homes are assigned a specific pickup zone, meaning collections occur strictly on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. The village provides an Interactive GIS map on its website to help residents accurately locate their specific garbage day and avoid missed pickups.
Sticker Program for Extra Refuse and Yard Waste
Westmont operates a hybrid volume-based system. Each home receives a 65-gallon Flood Bros cart for standard trash (with 35-gallon and 95-gallon options available). However, any extra garbage placed outside the cart requires a yellow Trash/Bulk Sticker. Similarly, yard waste requires an orange sticker unless it's during a designated free collection week. These stickers can be bought at Village Hall, Bales Ace Hardware, Jewel-Osco, or Mariano's.
Generous Free Brush and Bulk Item Pickup
One of the major benefits of the Westmont municipal contract is the allowance for free bulk and brush pickups. Residents can set out one free bulk item—like a mattress, couch, or five rolled pieces of carpet—each week without needing a sticker. Additionally, up to five bundles of properly tied brush and branches are collected weekly at no charge. Any bundles beyond the initial five require an orange yard waste sticker.
Composting and Food Scrap Integration
Westmont encourages sustainable organics disposal by allowing residents to mix clean food scraps with their yard waste during the active April-to-December season. You can either use a personal 32-gallon container with a tight lid (which requires an orange sticker per pickup) or rent a dedicated yard waste/compost cart with a lid directly from Flood Brothers for seamless weekly collection.
