Weekly Collection Schedule
Official municipal pickup timing for Langley Park
Maryland curbside collections typically run weekly (Monday-Friday). Your specific household collection day is determined by your local county or city zoning schedule.
State Mandate
Maryland MDE requires strict separation of yard trim from standard refuse, and mandates food scrap diversion under state law.
County-issued wheeled cart (or resident-provided up to 60 lbs) Bin (Trash)
Trash must be bagged inside the cart to prevent windblown litter. Only one loose, securely tied bag weighing 60 lbs or less is allowed outside the main trash cart.
Accepted Items
- ✓Standard household garbage
- ✓Food wrappers and non-recyclable plastics
- ✓Styrofoam
- ✓Bagged waste
Blue wheeled cart (County-issued) or bin marked with 'X' Bin (Recycling)
All recyclables must be placed loosely into the cart. Do not bag recyclables, as plastic bags jam the processing equipment at the Materials Recycling Facility.

- ✓Rigid plastics (bottles, tubs, jugs)
Do NOT Include
- ✕Plastic grocery bags

Holiday Schedule
General Rule
Prince George's County uses a 'slide' schedule. If a holiday falls on a weekday, collections for that day and all subsequent days that week are pushed back by one day, ending with Saturday collections.
Yard Waste Exception
Because organics and yard trim are always collected on Mondays, a holiday falling on a Monday will push the organics collection to Tuesday.
There are no scheduled bulky pickups for large appliances (white goods) or scrap tires on observed holidays.

Seasonal Information
Summer
June to SeptemberDuring the 'Beat the Heat' window from June 30 to September 30, all collection routes start an hour early at 5:00 a.m. Ensure your bins are at the curb the night before [1.2.1].

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Langley Park have its own municipal trash service?
No. Because Langley Park is an unincorporated community, residential waste management is handled entirely by the Prince George's County Sustainable Waste Management Division (SWMD).
Do I need to schedule an appointment for bulk trash in Langley Park?
For standard household furniture like sofas and tables, no appointment is needed. You can place up to four bulky items at the curb on your regular trash day. However, you must schedule an appointment via PGC311 for scrap tires and large appliances (white goods).
Why did the county leave my mattress at the curb?
In Prince George's County, mattresses and box springs will not be collected unless they are completely sealed inside a zippered, protective plastic encasement. This rule protects sanitation workers from potential bedbug exposure.
Can I put food scraps in my yard waste bin?
Yes. The county provides curbside composting every Monday. You can mix food scraps and kitchen organics directly with your leaves and grass clippings in your green organics cart.
