Holiday Schedule
General Rule
Anne Arundel County operates on a 'slide' schedule for major holidays. If your normal collection day falls on or after an observed holiday, your pickup will slide to the following day (e.g., Thursday moves to Friday, Friday moves to Saturday).
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste and recycling collections follow the exact same holiday slide schedule as standard household trash.
Several holidays, such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, and Veterans Day, close county facilities but do NOT interrupt curbside collection. Put your materials out normally on these days.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the rule for yard waste bags in Linthicum?
Anne Arundel County prohibits the use of plastic bags for yard waste. All leaves, grass, and brush must be placed in compostable paper yard bags or inside a reusable personal container marked prominently with a large 'X' on all sides.
Can I put my recycling in a plastic bag before tossing it in the yellow cart?
No. Plastic film and plastic garbage bags are not accepted in the county's recycling program. They wrap around the sorting gears at the recycling plant. All paper, plastics, and cans must be placed loosely in your yellow cart.
Do I need to schedule a bulk pickup for my old sofa?
Yes. Anne Arundel County requires residents to schedule bulk item collections in advance. You can request a pickup for up to three items by calling Customer Service at 410-222-6100 or using the online portal.
Why didn't the garbage truck pick up my trash in July when I put it out at 6:00 a.m.?
To protect sanitation workers from extreme heat, Anne Arundel County implements a summer schedule from June 1st through August. All curbside collections begin at 5:00 a.m., an hour earlier than usual. You should place your bins out the night before during the summer.
