Holiday Schedule

General Rule

If an observed holiday falls on a weekday, collections scheduled on or after that day shift one day forward (e.g., Monday routes move to Tuesday). Friday routes will be collected on Saturday.

Yard Waste Exception

Yard waste follows the exact same holiday slide schedule as trash and recycling since they are all collected on the same day.

Holidays like President's Day, Good Friday, and Juneteenth do NOT cause a delay in curbside collection. Place your bins out on your normal day for these specific holidays.

Seasonal Information

Fall

October to December

There is no limit to the amount of yard waste you can put out for curbside collection. During peak leaf season, you can set out as many paper bags or marked rigid bins as needed, provided each weighs 40 pounds or less.

Winter

December to January

Natural Christmas trees and wreaths are collected on your normal yard waste day. You must remove the tree stand, lights, metal hangers, and all decorations. Trees taller than 4 feet must be cut in half to fit inside the collection truck.

Spring & Summer

April to September

The County encourages 'Grasscycling' during the heavy mowing months. Leaving grass clippings on your lawn rather than bagging them acts as a natural fertilizer, saves time, and reduces the environmental footprint of waste processing.

Local Tips & Community Info

Turn Your Scrap Metal into Cash Near Pasadena?

Thinking about getting rid of some old appliances or metal items? While you're checking your trash schedule, see if there's a local scrap yard around Pasadena that buys metal. Places like ABC Metals in Baltimore might give you a few bucks for your cast iron or aluminum. It's a great way to clear out junk and make a little money at the same time. Just give them a call before you haul to check what they accept and their hours.

Give Gently Used Stuff a New Home in the Pasadena Area

Got items that are still good but you don't need anymore? Instead of tossing them, consider donating! In or near Pasadena, you might find places like the Salvation Army or Goodwill that accept clothing, furniture, and household goods. For building materials or home improvement items, check out a Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Donating helps others and keeps useful things out of the landfill.

What to Do About Annoying Trash Piles in Pasadena

If you spot illegal dumping or have questions about bulky item disposal beyond the usual limits in the Pasadena area, Anne Arundel County has a plan. You can usually report illegal dumping by calling the county's waste management or public works department. They often have special collection days for hazardous waste like paint or electronics, so keep an eye out for those announcements. Staying informed helps keep our community clean for everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I dispose of a refrigerator or lawnmower in Pasadena?

Large metal items, including refrigerators, washing machines, and lawnmowers, must be scheduled for a special collection. You cannot place these out on your regular trash day. Schedule a metal pickup online via the County's portal or by calling DPW customer service at 410-222-6100.

Do I need an appointment to throw away an old couch or mattress?

No appointment is needed for large non-metal items. Pasadena residents can set out up to three (3) bulky non-metal items, such as a couch, mattress, or wooden bookshelf, alongside their regular trash bins on their normal collection day.

Can I use plastic bags to pack up my autumn leaves?

No. Since 2017, Anne Arundel County has strictly banned plastic bags for yard waste. All leaves, grass, and brush must be placed in biodegradable paper lawn bags or in a rigid plastic or metal container marked with a large 'X' on all sides.

What should I do with a large plastic children's playset?

Unlike many other counties, Anne Arundel County accepts large rigid plastics in their curbside recycling program. You can place items like plastic playsets, lawn chairs, and large toys right next to your yellow or blue recycling bin on your normal collection day.
