Place yard waste in biodegradable Kraft paper bags, a 32-gallon container with a yard waste sticker, or a designated 95-gallon yard waste cart. Pickups occur seasonally from April 1 to mid-December.

Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If a recognized holiday falls on a weekday on or before your scheduled service day, garbage, recycling, and yard waste pickups will be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste collection experiences the exact same holiday delays as regular trash during its active season (April to mid-December).
Normal schedules immediately resume on the Monday following a holiday week.

Remove Lids from Glass Items
When recycling clear or colored glass bottles and jars, remember to completely remove any plastic or metal lids before tossing them into the bin. Lids are often made of mixed materials and can jam sorting equipment.
Bundle Your Cardboard
Macomb Township requires that large cardboard boxes not simply be shoved into the recycling bin. They must be flattened, cut down into 2-foot by 2-foot pieces, and securely tied in bundles to ensure they are collected efficiently.
Avoid Plastic Bags for Compost
Never put yard waste inside plastic garbage bags. The compost facility cannot process plastic, and any yard waste presented in plastic bags will be tagged and left at your curb. Always use Kraft paper bags or marked reusable bins.

April - DecemberWeekly curbside yard waste collection officially begins April 1st and concludes after the second full week in December. Make sure to have your compost bags and labeled bins at the curb by 7:00 AM on your normal trash day.
Winter
January - MarchYard waste collection is suspended during the winter months. During snow events, ensure your trash and recycling carts are placed clear of snowbanks and at least 3-4 feet away from the street edge to allow plows to pass safely.
Autumn
October - NovemberDuring peak leaf-fall season, yard waste limits apply to the size of branch bundles. Ensure any brush is tied with heavy twine, kept under 4 feet in length, and weighs no more than 50 pounds.

Transition to Priority Waste in Macomb Township
Effective July 1, 2024, Priority Waste assumed all waste hauling responsibilities for single-family residences in Macomb Township, taking over the previous contract from GFL Environmental. Residents must create a new online portal account directly through Priority Waste to manage their quarterly billing. If you experience missed stops or have service complaints, the Township has integrated a dedicated Service Request Form on their municipal website to streamline communication with the hauler.
Strict Weight and Container Limits
To ensure the safety of sanitation workers and prevent mechanical strain on automated trucks, Macomb Township enforces strict weight limits. If you are using a standard 95-gallon refuse cart, the total weight must not exceed 200 pounds. Residents who prefer using their own 32-gallon plastic or metal garbage cans must ensure they do not exceed 60 pounds. Regardless of the container, all standard household trash must be securely bagged inside the bin.
Senior and Veteran Discount Programs
Macomb Township offers specialized discount programs to help residents save on their quarterly waste bills. Seniors aged 60 and over, as well as military veterans, are eligible for reduced monthly base rates. To claim this discount, qualifying residents must complete the Senior/Veteran Discount Application and submit it in person or by mail with proper identification (such as a driver's license or Veteran ID) to the Macomb Township Treasurer's Office.
