All recyclables should be placed loosely into your official City of Troy cart. Cardboard must be cut or folded to fit entirely inside the cart; do not force or wedge it in, as drivers cannot reach in to dislodge stuck materials.

Holiday Schedule
General Rule
When an observed holiday falls on a weekday, trash, recycling, and yard waste collections for that day and all remaining days of the week are delayed by exactly one day.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste follows the exact same holiday delay schedule as regular refuse during the active composting season.
Collections are not delayed for minor holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, or Veterans Day.

Keep Plastic Bags Out of the Cart
Never bag your recyclables. Thin plastic grocery bags wrap around the sorting gears at the SOCRRA recycling facility, causing massive equipment jams. Return plastic film to local grocery stores instead.
Route Thick Branches to the Trash
Because Troy lacks a brush chipper service, putting thick branches (over 2 inches in diameter) in your yard waste will result in a rejected pickup. These must be bundled and placed with your normal garbage.
Roll and Tie Your Old Carpet
You cannot throw a massive, loose heap of carpeting at the curb. Carpet must be cut into 3-foot widths, tightly rolled, and tied with twine. Each roll cannot exceed 60 pounds, and you are limited to 2-3 rooms worth per week.
