!Contamination Tips
Mattress Wrapping is Mandatory
Rumpke strictly requires all mattresses, box springs, and upholstered furniture to be wrapped and sealed in plastic before curbside pickup to protect their drivers from potential bedbug exposures.
Keep Hazardous Pool Chemicals Out
Never throw pool chemicals, pesticides, or flammable liquids into your Rumpke trash bin. These items are illegal to landfill and can spark dangerous fires inside the collection trucks.
The Hefty ReNew Orange Bag Program
If you have hard-to-recycle plastics like foam containers or candy wrappers, do not put them in your curbside bin. Instead, place them in a Hefty ReNew Orange Bag and take them to the RCSW drop-off facility.

About Mansfield Waste Management
Mansfield's Dual Waste Management System
In Mansfield, solid waste disposal is a collaborative effort. The city has relied on Rumpke Waste & Recycling since 2009 for its standard curbside trash and single-stream recycling collections. Meanwhile, the Richland County Regional Solid Waste Management Authority (RCRSWMA) supplements this service by operating specialized collection facilities and 13 public recycling drop-off containers stationed throughout the county.
Curbside vs. Drop-Off Recycling in Richland County
While Rumpke provides easy single-stream curbside bins where all approved recyclables can be mixed, residents with excess materials or specific hard-to-recycle items can visit the RCSW Collection Facility at 1125 National Parkway. The local drop-off center also accepts Hefty ReNew Orange Bags for hard plastics, providing an excellent alternative to keep non-traditional plastics out of the local landfill.
Utilizing the Cairns Road Compost Facility
Yard waste can take up valuable space in curbside bins, so the RCSW operates a dedicated Compost Facility at 441 Cairns Road. Open seasonally from March through November, the site accepts leaves, brush, and grass clippings from residents. As an added perk, the facility creates nutrient-enriched 'Black Gold' compost and wood chips, which are made available to the community for gardening and landscaping.
Navigating Bulk Trash and Furniture Pickups
Getting rid of large furniture or appliances in Mansfield requires a bit of planning. You must notify Rumpke at least 48 hours prior to your regularly scheduled collection day to secure a spot for a bulk pickup. For community safety, all mattresses and upholstered furniture must be completely wrapped in plastic, and appliances containing Freon require special handling and certified removal tags.
