State Mandate
Ohio EPA regulations prohibit the disposal of whole scrap tires in standard landfills.

Holiday Schedule
General Rule
Rumpke delays collection by one day if an observed holiday falls on or before your scheduled pickup day during the workweek.
Yard Waste Exception
Since curbside yard waste is collected concurrently with your standard refuse, it will also be delayed by one day during holiday weeks.
Even during a holiday delay, ensure your carts and yard waste bundles are set out by 7:00 a.m. on the adjusted collection day.

The Plastic Bag Ban
Rumpke and the City of Oxford strictly prohibit plastic bags in both the curbside red recycling bins and the public drop-off dumpsters. Return grocery bags to local retailers for proper recycling.
Leave the Labels, Remove the Lids
While you do not need to peel the labels off your plastic bottles or glass jars, you must empty the contents and give them a quick rinse. For glass jars, remove the metal or plastic lids and throw them in the regular trash.
Keep Grass Out of Yard Waste
Oxford's yard waste program is strictly for brush, leaves, and structural trimmings. Grass clippings, dirt, root balls, and sod are entirely prohibited and will be left at the curb with a rejection tag by city crews.

Strict Container Enforcement in Oxford
While Rumpke handles the physical collection of waste in Oxford, the city strictly enforces its own local ordinances regarding how trash is presented. According to the Oxford City Code, all garbage must be placed in strong, rodent-proof containers with tight-fitting lids. Cans cannot exceed a 32-gallon capacity or weigh more than 60 pounds when loaded. Because of this rule, leaving loose plastic garbage bags at the curb is considered illegal and will not be collected.
Innovative Food Scrap Composting
In an effort to divert organic waste from landfills, Oxford partners with GoZero to offer a unique Food Scrap Composting Program. Residents can collect their household food scraps and certified compostable materials and drop them off in specialized bins at the TRI Recreation Center (6025 Fairfield Road). The drop-off bins are conveniently located in the parking lot and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Public 24/7 Drop-Off Recycling Locations
The City recognizes that not every resident has access to curbside recycling, particularly those living in apartment complexes. To solve this, Oxford provides two 24/7 public recycling drop-off dumpsters. You can easily recycle your paper, cardboard, glass, and approved plastics behind the Miami University Police Station at the Ditmer Parking Lot, or right behind TJ Maxx near the Culinary Support Center.
Curbside Yard Waste Requirements
Oxford provides free curbside yard waste collection on your regular refuse day, but strict preparation rules apply. The city explicitly prohibits grass clippings, sod, and dirt. Brush must be tied with a natural fiber cord—like cotton or twine, never plastic or wire—into bundles no longer than three feet and weighing under 50 pounds. You are limited to six bundles or open paper yard bags per pickup.
