Holiday Schedule
General Rule
When a major holiday falls on your collection day, there will be NO trash pickup. The Township will resume a normal schedule on the next scheduled collection day.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste drop-off dates are strictly scheduled for specific weekends (Saturdays/Sundays) throughout the year and generally avoid major holidays.
Always refer to the Township calendar on marpletwp.com for exact holiday closure notices, as a missed day usually means waiting for your next scheduled pickup day in a twice-weekly system.

!Contamination Tips
Skip the Plastic Bags for Recycling
Your Wednesday single-stream recycling must be placed loosely into the blue bin. Do not bag your items in plastic grocery bags or garbage bags, as they will cause your recycling to be rejected at the curb.
Respect the 50-Pound Limit
The Delaware County Transfer Station rejects wet or excessively heavy refuse. Ensure that your trash cans or heavy-duty plastic bags do not exceed 50 pounds to protect the sanitation workers and ensure your garbage is collected.
Leave Bamboo Out of Brush Piles
Bamboo is highly invasive and cannot be processed normally with local mulch at the compost facilities. Keep bamboo entirely out of your yard waste bundles and drop-off loads.

Winter
December - FebruaryIf you pay for Rear Service, or if you place bins at the curb, you must maintain a clear, shoveled path during snow and ice storms to assure continued, uninterrupted service.
About Marple Township Waste Management
Twice-Weekly Pickups and Rear Service Options
Unlike many municipalities that only pick up garbage once a week, Marple Township provides a highly convenient twice-weekly collection schedule. Depending on your specific ward, your trash days are either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday. In a unique offering, residents can opt to pay an additional fee for "Rear Service." If purchased, the sanitation crew will collect up to three containers directly from the rear of your property, provided they are easily accessible and a clear path is maintained during winter snowstorms.
Single-Stream Wednesday Recycling
Recycling in Marple is handled entirely separately from your regular trash days, with collections taking place township-wide every Wednesday. Residents must place their materials in a blue recycling can, which can be purchased for $30 at the Code Enforcement Department if you do not already have one. Most importantly, plastic bags are strictly forbidden. If you bag your recyclables, your bin will be skipped, as plastic bags jam up the sorting machines at the Delaware County Transfer Station.
The "No Grass, No Leaves, No Bamboo" Yard Waste Rule
While Marple Township offers a dedicated yard waste drop-off site behind the Old Marple Grade School on specific weekend dates, they enforce very strict material rules. Only woody brush and branches are accepted. Grass clippings, bamboo, and leaves are explicitly prohibited from this drop-off. Similarly, during the brief two-week curbside yard waste collection in April, these materials remain banned. Leaves are instead handled during a specialized curbside leaf collection program that spans from late October through mid-December.
Scheduling and Pre-Paying for Bulk Waste
Disposing of large items like furniture, appliances, or carpets is known as a "Special Collection" in Marple. These pickups happen exclusively on your second trash day of the week (Thursday or Friday). However, you cannot simply leave them at the curb. You must arrange and pre-pay for this service at least two days in advance—by Tuesday for a Thursday pickup, or Wednesday for a Friday pickup. The flat fee is $20 per item or $40 for televisions, which can be paid via mail or at the township office drop box.
