Holiday Schedule

General Rule

If your scheduled trash collection day falls on an observed holiday, your pickup will be moved to the MONDAY of that holiday week. It is not delayed by a day.

Yard Waste Exception

Because regular trash shifts to Monday during a holiday week, all yard waste collection is rescheduled from Monday to Saturday for the entire township.

This schedule requires vigilance, as your trash may need to go out days earlier than usual during a holiday week.

!Contamination Tips

Keep Electronics Out of the Bin

By Pennsylvania state law, electronic waste such as televisions, computers, and monitors cannot be disposed of in regular trash or recycling. You must take these to a designated Montgomery County e-waste event.

No Plastic Bags in the Recycling

Never put your single-stream recyclables into plastic garbage or grocery bags. The flexible film wraps around sorting machinery at the ReCommunity processing plant, causing shutdowns.

Separate Yard Waste Completely

If you mix grass clippings or branches into your 6 allowed trash bags, J.P. Mascaro crews will reject the bag. Yard waste must be kept entirely separate for Monday organic collection.

Seasonal Information

Fall

October - December

Whitemarsh Public Works operates a heavy curbside leaf collection program. Rake leaves to the curb according to the township's published zone schedule, ensuring no sticks or rocks are mixed in to avoid damaging the vacuums.

Winter

January

Following the holidays, you can dispose of Christmas trees and wreaths with your Monday yard waste collection. Ensure all tinsel, ornaments, and plastic wrapping are completely removed.

Spring/Summer

March - September

During peak growing season, adhere strictly to the rule that branches must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter for Monday collection.

About Whitemarsh Waste Management

An Unusual Pre-Pull Holiday Collection Rule

Unlike most municipalities that delay trash service by one day following a holiday, Whitemarsh Township employs a unique schedule adjustment. If your regular trash and recycling collection day falls on one of the six observed holidays, your pickup is actually moved *forward* to the Monday of that holiday week. This ensures your waste is cleared early, but it requires residents to remember to put their bins out ahead of schedule.

Holiday Weeks: Yard Waste Shifts to Saturday

In a standard week, J.P. Mascaro & Sons collects curbside yard waste across the entire township every Monday. However, because regular trash collection routes are compressed into Monday during holiday weeks, all township yard waste collection is bumped to Saturday. Always refer to the official Township Yard Waste Collection Map to confirm seasonal schedule variations.

Generous Yet Regulated Trash Limits

While many towns are moving to restrictive cart-only systems, Whitemarsh still allows residents a generous refuse limit. You may place up to six waterproof bags or personal containers at the curb per week. The critical restriction is that no single bag or container can exceed 50 pounds, ensuring the safety of the manual collection crews.

One Free Bulk Item Per Week

Whitemarsh residents don't have to wait for a special monthly bulk day to dispose of large items. You are permitted to place one bulk item (such as a piece of furniture, carpet roll, or appliance) at the curb on your regular trash day every week. If you need to dispose of a mattress or box spring, state health regulations require that it be completely wrapped and sealed in heavy-duty plastic.

Robust Fall Leaf Composting

To divert organic waste from landfills, the Whitemarsh Township Public Works Department runs an extensive Curbside Leaf Pick-Up Program every autumn. Averaging about 1,500 tons of leaves collected annually, the material is processed into compost. Remember not to mix regular yard debris with trash, as state law mandates its separation.
