Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If your normal collection day falls on or after a recognized holiday during the work week, your service will be delayed by one day. Holidays falling on a weekend do not delay collection.
Yard Waste Exception
Green waste collection follows the same one-day delay rule during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's weeks.
Sugar Land provides three bonus bulky waste collections immediately following Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's based on the Monday bulk service schedule.

December - JanuaryLive Christmas trees are picked up on your regular weekly green waste day (must be free of ornaments, lights, and tinsel). Artificial trees are not green waste and must be placed out during your designated monthly bulk waste collection day.
Spring and Summer
March - AugustDue to higher-than-normal green waste volumes during the peak growing season, collection trucks may experience delays. Leave your green waste at the curb, and crews will continue working until routes are completed.
Late Fall
NovemberTake advantage of the extra post-Thanksgiving bulk waste collection day to clear out any large items or extra household clutter accumulated before the peak winter holidays.

What are the requirements to visit the Blue Ridge Landfill for free?
Sugar Land residents get one free visit per month to dispose of up to 3 cubic yards of waste. You must bring a valid driver's license and a physical copy of your water bill with a matching address. Most importantly, you are strictly required to wear closed-toe shoes, a hard hat, and a safety vest while on the premises.
Does Sugar Land pick up oversized cardboard boxes?
Yes, but it requires an appointment. If you have cardboard quantities too large for your recycling cart, you must contact Republic Services to request a curbside bulk cardboard recycling pickup. Do not leave packing materials or styrofoam inside the boxes.
Can I put tree branches in black garbage bags?
No. The City of Sugar Land strictly prohibits putting green waste into black or opaque bags. All loose leaves and grass clippings must be placed in clear or translucent bags, or a dedicated reusable container, to be serviced by the green waste trucks.
