Neighborhood Specific Schedules

Virginia curbside collection runs weekly from Monday through Friday. Your exact pickup day depends on your local county or city zoning schedule.

Set bins out: Typically by 6:00 AM

State Mandate

Virginia DEQ regulations strictly prohibit lead-acid batteries, motor oil, and whole waste tires in curbside bins.

Republic Services Toter (typically Blue) Bin (Trash)

Place your toter at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your Tuesday and Friday collection days. All trash must be bagged inside the Republic Services toter. The hauler will not collect unorganized piles or blown waste left outside the bin.

Accepted Items

  • Normal household waste
  • Securely bagged trash
  • Crushed non-recyclables
  • Food wrappers

Republic Services Toter (typically Blue with Light Blue Lid) Bin (Recycling)

Recycling is collected exclusively on Fridays. Place items loosely inside the toter. All cardboard boxes must be fully crushed or broken down. Keep the lid closed securely to prevent materials from blowing away.

Accepted Items

  • Crushed cardboard boxes
  • Mixed paper and mail
  • Plastic bottles and jugs
  • Aluminum and steel cans

Do NOT Include

  • Batteries and e-bikes
  • Plastic bags and film
  • Food waste
  • Yard debris
  • Glass (often collected separately or restricted)

Yard Waste Bin

Yard waste is collected on Tuesdays from March through the end of December. There is a strict limit of 10 individual paper bags, marked personal rigid containers, or tied bundles per residence each week. Plastic bags are not permitted.

Accepted Items

  • Leaves and grass clippings
  • Weeds
  • Brush and branches (max 50 lbs, 4 feet in length, and 6 inches in diameter)

  • Large, non-hazardous household items that fit size guidelines

Not Accepted

  • Construction and renovation materials
  • Landscape materials and tree removal debris

This service is included in your Brambleton HOA assessment at no additional charge, provided the items meet standard bulk household waste guidelines.

Holiday Schedule

General Rule

Republic Services observes these three major holidays. If your scheduled collection day falls on one of these holidays, there is no service, and pickup is typically shifted to the next regular collection day.

Yard Waste Exception

Yard waste collection goes on a mandatory hiatus at the end of December and resumes normal operations on the first Tuesday in March.

Because Brambleton operates via an HOA contract, condominium residents should consult their specific property management company (e.g., FirstService Residential) as their holiday service structures may differ slightly.

!Contamination Tips

Crush Your Boxes

Unflattened cardboard boxes take up too much space and can jam the collection trucks. The BCA strictly requires all cardboard boxes to be completely crushed or broken down before placing them into your recycling toters.

Keep Batteries Out of the Bins

Never throw lithium-ion batteries or small electronic devices into your regular trash or recycling toters. They are highly flammable and pose a massive risk to Republic Services drivers, equipment, and recycling facilities.

Mind the Wind

Mother Nature is not an excuse for loose trash in Brambleton. If your recyclables blow out of an overfilled toter on a windy day, you are personally responsible for cleaning the spilled debris from the streets and neighboring yards.

Seasonal Information

Spring to Autumn

March to December

Weekly yard debris collection occurs on Tuesdays. Ensure your grass clippings and autumn leaves are packed in compostable paper bags or clearly marked personal rigid containers. Remember the limit is 10 bags or bundles per week.

Winter

January

Christmas tree recycling takes place on Tuesdays during the first two weeks of January. Make sure you strip the tree of all ornaments, tinsel, lights, and stands prior to placing it at the curb for collection.

Winter

November to March

Severe snow events can disrupt normal Republic Services routes in Loudoun County. If extreme winter weather strikes, stay tuned to the Brambleton Community Association portal for delay announcements and retrieve your toters from the curb if accumulation exceeds 5 inches.

About Brambleton Waste Management

Integrated Waste Management Through the BCA

Living in Brambleton means your waste removal services are seamlessly managed by the Brambleton Community Association (BCA). Single-family detached and townhome residents receive curbside trash, recycling, and yard waste removal from Republic Services as part of their community assessments. This centralized contract helps keep neighborhoods clean, unified, and aesthetically pleasing without residents having to shop around for individual haulers.

Battling Mother Nature's Winds

Due to the high winds frequently experienced in Northern Virginia, the BCA enforces specific weather protocols for curbside bins. Under normal conditions, trash toters can be placed out at 6:00 p.m. the evening before collection. However, if winds of 10 mph or greater are forecasted, residents are strictly required to wait and place their bins out by 6:00 a.m. on the actual pickup day to prevent scattered litter.

The Strict Ban on E-Waste and Batteries

Brambleton is actively cracking down on improper battery disposal. E-bikes, scooters, and all battery-powered devices are strictly banned from residential trash carts. Lithium-ion batteries pose a severe fire risk when crushed in the back of Republic Services collection trucks. Residents must utilize designated local e-waste drop-offs or the Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility to safely recycle these items.

Convenient Bulk Pickup, By Appointment Only

You do not have to wait for a special county cleanup day to get rid of old furniture. Brambleton residents can take advantage of a free bulk item pickup service on Tuesdays. To participate, you must schedule the collection by emailing Republic Services at least seven days in advance. You are also required to include photos and dimensions of your items to guarantee they meet the acceptable guidelines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the BCA provide my trash and recycling bins?

Yes, as part of your community assessment, Republic Services provides specific toters for single-family homes and townhomes in Brambleton. If you are new to the community or have a damaged toter, you must email Republic Services directly to arrange for a delivery or replacement.

What should I do with my bins if it is very windy outside?

If winds of 10 mph or greater are forecasted, the HOA requires you to wait until 6:00 a.m. on the day of your pickup to set out your toters, rather than the night before. Residents are held accountable for picking up any trash that blows out of their bins.

Can I leave extra bags of trash next to my toter?

No. Republic Services is not required to collect large, unorganized piles or loose waste bags left outside the provided toters. All regular household trash must fit securely inside the closed toter.

How do I throw away an old couch or mattress in Brambleton?

Bulk household waste pickup is available on Tuesdays but must be scheduled in advance. You need to email Republic Services at least seven days prior with a description, size measurements, and photos of the item. Once approved, place the item curbside by 6:00 a.m. on your confirmed Tuesday.
