Yard Waste Exception
Yard and food waste collection follows the exact same holiday delay schedule as regular garbage and recycling pickups.
LeMay Pierce County Refuse only observes New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Other holidays like Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Independence Day do not affect your normal collection schedule.

!Contamination Tips
Keep Glass Out of Curbside Bins
Unlike some other regions, Frederickson's curbside recycling program does not accept glass of any kind. To recycle glass bottles and jars, take them to designated drop-off locations throughout Pierce County to avoid contaminating paper and plastic loads.
Say No to Plastic Bags
Never bag your recyclables. Flimsy plastic bags, stretch wrap, and garbage bags easily wrap around the gears of sorting machinery at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), causing facility shutdowns. Return clean plastic bags to local grocery stores instead.
Clean and Dry Recyclables Only
Thoroughly rinse all food and liquid residue out of plastic containers, aluminum cans, and steel tins. Even a small amount of leftover liquid can ruin large batches of clean paper and cardboard.
Seasonal Information
Fall
October to NovemberFalling leaves across Pierce County can quickly fill your yard waste cart. If you exceed your container's capacity, place extra debris in untied compostable paper bags next to your cart (a small extra fee applies).
Winter
December to JanuaryAfter the holidays, un-flocked and un-decorated Christmas trees can be chopped into pieces smaller than 4 inches in diameter to fit inside the yard waste bin. Watch the LeMay Inc. mobile app for any severe winter weather service delays.
Spring
April to MaySpring cleanups often result in extra household junk. Rather than overfilling your standard garbage cart, schedule a special bulk pickup or rent a temporary roll-off dumpster through LeMay Pierce County Refuse.
About Frederickson Waste Management
Comprehensive Waste Management in Frederickson, WA
Nestled in Pierce County, the rapidly growing community of Frederickson relies on LeMay Pierce County Refuse for exceptional solid waste collection. With the area's mix of residential neighborhoods and commercial developments, maintaining clean streets is a priority. Residents must have their carts correctly positioned at the curbside by 6:00 a.m. on their designated collection day. To ensure automated trucks can safely service your home, keep carts within 5 feet of the drivable road with at least 3 feet of clearance from vehicles, mailboxes, and fences.
Understanding Pierce County Recycling Guidelines
Recycling in Frederickson requires a keen eye on contamination, as local rules differ slightly from neighboring regions. The most critical rule for residents to remember is that glass is not accepted in curbside recycling carts. Instead, glass bottles and jars must be taken to specialized county drop-off locations. When loading your blue cart, ensure that all approved items like unwaxed cardboard, plastic tubs, and aluminum cans are placed loosely into the bin, completely empty, and free of any liquid or food residue.
Maximizing the Food and Yard Waste Program
Thanks to Washington State's organics management initiatives, Frederickson residents have access to a robust curbside yard waste program that also accepts a wide variety of food scraps. Beyond just grass clippings and leaves, you can toss fruit peels, coffee grounds, meat, poultry, seafood, and eggshells into your green organics cart. However, you must keep plastic bags, pizza boxes, and items labeled 'compostable' out of this bin, as they disrupt the local composting process.
Handling Bulky Items and Extra Garbage
If you have extra garbage that won't fit into a closed cart, you can place sealed bags next to your bin for an extra fee. Due to safety precautions, unbagged extra waste will not be collected. For substantial items like broken furniture, old mattresses, or heavy appliances, standard curbside pickup won't suffice. Residents must contact LeMay Customer Service directly to arrange a dedicated bulk pickup or explore renting a temporary residential roll-off dumpster to handle major household cleanout projects.
Holiday Schedule and Mobile App Convenience
Managing your waste pickup schedule is easier than ever with the LeMay Inc. mobile app, which sends real-time service alerts and collection reminders directly to your phone. It is especially useful during the holidays, as Frederickson routes are delayed by one day following New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Other federal holidays do not impact the standard collection routine, so carts should be placed out as normal.
