Official municipal pickup timing for Longview
Washington state municipal collections operate on weekly zone-based routes. Specific days are determined by your Organics Recycling Collection Area (ORCA).
State Mandate
Comply with the WA Organics Management Law. E-waste and hazardous materials are strictly prohibited.
Green Bin (Trash)
Place your containers a minimum of five feet away from parked vehicles and three feet from other obstacles. Point handles toward your home and have bins out by 7:00 a.m.

Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If your collection day falls on or after an observed holiday, service will be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste goes in the regular garbage, so it follows the exact same holiday schedule.
Waste Control operates on a normal schedule for all other holidays, including MLK Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day, even if their main customer service office is closed.

No Plastic Bags in the Brown Cart
While plastic grocery bags can be recycled at local supermarkets, they are strictly prohibited in Longview's brown recycling carts [2.1.3]. They tangle in the sorting facility's equipment and cause costly shutdowns. Always leave your recyclables loose.
Keep Food-Soiled Paper Out
Greasy pizza boxes, juice cartons, and wax-coated paper cannot be recycled in Longview. If paper or cardboard is contaminated with grease or food residue, it must be thrown into your green garbage cart.
Don't Overfill Shared Green Tubs
If you live in an area of Longview that still utilizes shared green garbage tubs in alleyways, be courteous to your neighbors. Do not fill the shared tubs with massive amounts of yard waste; reserve the space for standard household garbage.

June to AugustWaste Control crews work on summer holidays [1.1.3]. Do not delay your bins for Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, or Labor Day; have them out by 7:00 a.m. on your normal scheduled day.
Fall
September to NovemberDuring heavy leaf fall, remember that dumping yard debris or overgrown vegetation in the alley behind your property is a municipal code violation. Take excess debris to the Waste Control Transfer Station.
Winter
December to JanuaryCollections are only delayed for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Prepare for holiday volume by breaking down all cardboard boxes so they fit entirely inside your brown recycling cart.

Bundled Municipal Utility Billing
In Longview, residential garbage and recycling are bundled with your city water, sewer, and stormwater utilities. To set up a new account or stop service when moving, you must contact the City of Longview Finance Department [1.1.1]. However, day-to-day operations, including cart replacements, missed pickups, and service level changes, are managed directly by the franchised hauler, Waste Control.
The Recycling Inspection Program
Longview takes recycling contamination very seriously. Due to historically high contamination rates in the brown recycling carts, the City Council implemented a formal recycling inspection program. Carts are actively monitored, and households receive Education or Violation notices for improperly sorting garbage into the recycling bin, which can eventually lead to fines if the behavior is not corrected.
