Official municipal pickup timing for Maple Valley
Washington state municipal collections operate on weekly zone-based routes. Specific days are determined by your Organics Recycling Collection Area (ORCA).
State Mandate
Comply with the WA Organics Management Law. E-waste and hazardous materials are strictly prohibited.
Gray or Black Bin (Trash)
All trash must fit inside the cart with the lid completely closed. Carts must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.

Blue Bin (Recycling)

Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If your scheduled collection day falls on or after one of these observed holidays, your pickup will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
Yard Waste Exception
Food scraps, yard debris, and recycling follow the exact same holiday delay schedule as your garbage service.
Recology operates on a normal schedule for all other holidays, including Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day. Do not delay your bins for summer holidays.

!Contamination Tips
No Shredded Paper in Recycling
Loose shredded paper blows around during the collection process and contaminates the automated sorting equipment. Shredded paper must be securely bagged and thrown in the gray garbage cart, never the blue recycling cart.
Leave Glass Lids Off
Before you recycle glass bottles and jars in your blue cart, you must remove all plastic and metal caps. Small lids fall through the processing grates and contaminate other material streams; throw them in the trash.
Double-Bag Messy Waste
Pet waste, kitty litter, cold ashes, and loose packing peanuts must be double-bagged in the gray garbage cart. This protects sanitation workers from hazardous dust clouds and keeps loose litter out of Maple Valley streets.

Winter
December to FebruaryDuring extreme winter weather, such as heavy snow or ice, Recology may suspend collections for safety. Leave your carts at the curb; drivers will collect double your normal volume on the next safely accessible service day at no extra charge.
Spring/Fall
March to NovemberMaple Valley coordinates with King County Solid Waste to host special residential recycling collection events in the summer and fall. These events offer drop-offs for hard-to-recycle items that cannot go in standard curbside bins.

You can request the pickup of up to two large items (like a couch or appliance) and up to one cubic yard of extra boxed garbage right from your curb.
Food Scraps and Organics Collection
Your residential garbage service with Recology automatically includes weekly food scraps and yard debris collection at no extra cost. The city highly encourages residents to keep heavy, methane-producing food waste out of the Cedar Hills Regional Landfill by placing meat, dairy, bones, and food-soiled paper directly into the green organics cart.
Managing E-Waste and Small Appliances
Electronics and small appliances are strictly banned from your standard garbage cart due to toxic materials. However, Maple Valley residents can utilize the Special Item Recycling program to have small appliances and e-waste (under 2'x2'x2' and less than 60 lbs) collected at the curb for free. Items must be placed in a clear plastic bag on top of your recycling cart.
