Official municipal pickup timing for Redmond
Washington state municipal collections operate on weekly zone-based routes. Specific days are determined by your Organics Recycling Collection Area (ORCA).
State Mandate
Comply with the WA Organics Management Law. E-waste and hazardous materials are strictly prohibited.
Grey/Black Bin (Trash)
Place your cart at the curb with the lid completely closed. Carts must be spaced at least three feet apart from other bins, vehicles, and mailboxes.

Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If your scheduled collection day falls on or after a listed holiday, your pickup will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the holiday week.
Yard Waste Exception
Organics and yard waste follow the exact same holiday delay schedule as garbage and recycling.
Recology works on all other holidays. Service operates as completely normal on Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day.

On-Call Bagging for Special Plastics and E-Waste
Never throw styrofoam, batteries, or small electronics loosely into your blue recycling cart. In Redmond, these items will ruin standard recycling batches. They must be individually bagged, clearly labeled, and placed next to your cart for an on-call specialty pickup.
Strict Size Limits for Cardboard
While corrugated cardboard is fully recyclable, large, unbroken boxes jam the automated collection arms on the trucks. You must break down and flatten all cardboard to dimensions no larger than 3 feet by 3 feet.
Ditch the Lids and Caps
When recycling plastic jugs, tubs, and glass containers, ensure they are completely empty and rinsed. Crucially, always remove the lids or caps before placing the containers in the recycling cart, as small lids easily fall through the sorting machinery and cause mechanical jams.

Summer
June to AugustDuring the hot summer months, prevent odors and pests in your organics cart by layering food scraps beneath dry yard waste like leaves or grass clippings. Alternatively, you can wrap meat and dairy scraps in newspaper before composting them.
