Official municipal pickup timing for Renton

Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If your regular service day falls on or after an observed holiday during the week, your collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week.
Yard Waste Exception
Organics (gray cart) collection experiences the exact same one-day holiday delay as garbage and recycling.
Republic Services only observes these three major holidays. Normal collection service occurs on Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day.

Keep Plastic Bags Out of the Blue Cart
Plastic garbage bags and grocery sacks tangle the gears at the local sorting facility. Always toss your recyclables loosely into your blue bin, and take soft plastic films to local grocery store drop-offs.
Recycle by Shape, Not the Number
Ignore the chasing arrows on plastic packaging. In Renton, you should only recycle plastic if it is shaped like a bottle, jug, or tub. Clamshell takeout containers and plastic cups belong in the green garbage cart.
Compost Your Greasy Pizza Boxes
Grease destroys paper fibers, meaning pizza boxes cannot be recycled. Instead, tear them up and toss them into your gray organics cart so they can be turned into nutrient-rich compost.

Unlimited Recycling and Organics at No Extra Cost
To actively incentivize landfill diversion and align with King County's zero-waste goals, Renton provides the collection of unlimited quantities of recycling and organics at no additional cost with your standard garbage service. Residents are heavily encouraged to upsize their blue and gray carts to 96 gallons for free to maximize waste diversion and lower their monthly garbage bill.
On-Call Bulky Item Disposal
For household items too large for the green garbage cart—such as mattresses, broken sofas, or old refrigerators—Renton residents can schedule an on-call bulky waste collection through Republic Services. Each scheduled item incurs a flat per-item pickup fee, and items must be placed cleanly at the curb on the designated collection morning.
Self-Haul Options at the Renton Transfer Station
Residents with large property cleanouts or excess construction debris can self-haul materials to the King County Renton Recycling & Transfer Station located on NE 4th Street. The facility accepts standard household garbage for a fee, while separated recyclables like mixed paper, glass, and scrap metal can be dropped off free of charge.
Strict Secure-Your-Load Policies
When transporting excess garbage or bulky items to any King County Transfer Station, including Renton's, state law requires all loads to be fully secured with tarps or tie-downs. If a vehicle arrives at the facility with an unsecured load that could shift or fall onto the roadway, a mandatory $25 unsecured load fee will be added to the final disposal bill.
