!Contamination Tips
Bag Your Food, Not Your Recyclables
In Diamond Bar, you must tie your food scraps in clear plastic bags before placing them in the green organics cart. However, plastic bags of any kind are strictly prohibited in the grey recycling cart.
Palm Fronds and Bamboo Go in the Trash
While they are natural plants, palm fronds, bamboo, and ivy are too fibrous and can tangle or damage the green waste processing equipment. Always place these specific plants in your black trash cart.
Strict 10% Contamination Limit
Diamond Bar actively monitors waste carts for compliance. If your recycling or organics cart contains more than 10% contamination (like trash in the green bin), VVS will issue a warning, and repeat violations will result in contamination fees.

About Diamond Bar Waste Management
New Residential Contract and Dual-Hauler System
As of September 1, 2025, Diamond Bar implemented a major change in its waste management strategy by transitioning to a dual-hauler system. Valley Vista Services (VVS) now exclusively handles all single-family residential trash, recycling, and organic waste collection, while Waste Management (WM) retains the commercial accounts. This change brings upgraded carts and expanded service offerings for Diamond Bar homeowners, including robust SB 1383 organics compliance.
Complimentary Door-to-Door HHW Collection
Unlike most cities that require residents to drive to regional collection centers, Diamond Bar offers unparalleled convenience for toxic waste disposal. Through Valley Vista Services, residential customers are entitled to two free door-to-door Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) pickups per calendar year. You can safely dispose of paint, automotive fluids, garden chemicals, and electronic waste without ever leaving your driveway.
Free Sharps Mail-Back and Curbside Motor Oil Recycling
Diamond Bar's residential program goes above and beyond standard curbside collection by offering specialized disposal for medical sharps and motor oil. Residents can request free delivery of certified sharps containers from VVS, which can be safely mailed back via MED-Project. Additionally, DIY mechanics can place clean, sealed containers of used motor oil and zip-locked oil filters directly at the curb on their regular service day for free pickup.
SB 1383 Organics and the 'Clear Bag' Kitchen Pail System
To comply with California's SB 1383 mandates, Diamond Bar requires all food scraps to be recycled in the green organics cart. However, Valley Vista Services utilizes a specific method to reduce pests and odors: residents are instructed to line their provided two-gallon kitchen pails with clear plastic bags. Food waste—such as meat, dairy, bones, and produce—should be tied securely in these clear bags before being tossed into the green cart alongside loose yard trimmings.
Accessibility Options and Additional Free Carts
Diamond Bar is committed to accessible and affordable sanitation. VVS offers a free Valet/Backyard service for medically or legally recognized disabled residents, where drivers will retrieve and return carts from storage areas. Furthermore, standard service includes one cart for each waste stream, but eco-conscious households can request one additional recycling cart and one additional organics cart completely free of charge to maximize their diversion efforts.
