Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If a holiday falls on a weekday, collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week (e.g., Friday pickups happen on Saturday).
Yard Waste Exception
Organics and recycling follow the exact same holiday delay schedule as regular trash.
If an observed holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, there are no delays to the collection schedule.

Keep Plastic Out of the Green Cart
Even plastics labeled as 'biodegradable' or 'compostable' are not accepted in the Burrtec organics program. Keep all plastic out of the green cart to ensure high-quality compost.
Flatten Your Boxes
To maximize space and prevent your blue recycling cart from jamming during automated collection, always break down and flatten your cardboard shipping boxes.
Loose Recyclables Only
Never bag your recyclables. Bagged items are treated as trash at the sorting facility because workers cannot safely open and sort them on the fast-moving belts.

December to JanuaryBurrtec offers special curbside holiday tree recycling for a limited time after Christmas. Ensure all lights, ornaments, tinsel, and stands are removed before placing the tree on the curb.
Summer
June to AugustHot Southern California summers can cause odors in the organics cart. Keep food scraps in the freezer during the week and only place them in the green cart the night before collection.
Fall
October to NovemberDuring peak leaf-fall season, make sure all leaves and yard trimmings fit inside your green cart with the lid completely closed. Do not leave loose piles of leaves in the street.

In full compliance with California's SB 1383 mandate, Burrtec has integrated a comprehensive organics recycling program for East San Gabriel residents. All households are required to separate food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard trimmings into their green cart to divert organic material from local landfills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Understanding the needs of its diverse community, Burrtec provides complimentary roll-out services. Elderly residents over the age of 62, or those with disabilities who do not have an able-bodied person living in the household, can have their carts pulled to the curb and returned by the collection drivers at no additional charge.
