Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If a recognized holiday falls on a weekday, Waste Management collection services will be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week (e.g., Thursday service moves to Friday).
Yard Waste Exception
This standard one-day delay applies uniformly to all three carts (trash, recycling, and organics).
If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, your regular weekday collection schedule is unaffected and operates normally.

Keep Grass and Food Out of Street Piles
Never place grass clippings or food waste in the Green Waste Street Piles. These items must go directly into your green curbside organics cart to prevent street flooding and comply with state water permits.
Palm Fronds Go in the Trash
Because palm branches and fronds are extremely fibrous and do not break down in the municipal composting process, they are strictly prohibited from the organics cart and street piles. Always throw palm material into the gray trash cart.
No Plastic Bags in the Blue Cart
Plastic grocery bags and film wrap easily tangle the sorting machines at the recycling facility. Keep all recyclables loose in the blue cart, and return plastic bags to local retail drop-off bins.

November to JanuaryDuring Leaf Drop Season (Nov 1 - Jan 31), the Green Waste Street Pile Program operates on a weekly pickup schedule. Ensure piles are placed in the street no more than one week before your service day and do not block gutters.

February to OctoberDuring the Non-Leaf Drop Season, street piles are only collected once a month. To minimize odors in the summer heat, consider keeping meat and dairy scraps in your freezer until the morning of your organics collection day.

The Green Waste Street Pile Program
Woodland offers a unique Green Waste Street Pile Program for single-family residences. During Leaf Drop Season (November through January), clean yard trimmings such as leaves and branches are collected weekly from the street. During the Non-Leaf Drop Season (February through October), collections drop to once a month. Residents must keep food waste and grass clippings completely out of these street piles, as those must be placed inside the curbside organics cart to comply with storm water pollution prevention standards.

Instead of hauling toxic materials across town, residents can schedule a free weekday pickup for household hazardous waste (HHW) like paint, motor oil, batteries, and even electronic waste. These items are collected safely right from your front porch, keeping dangerous chemicals out of the Yolo County Central Landfill.
