Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If a recognized holiday falls on a weekday, collections for the rest of the week will be pushed back one day. For example, if the holiday is on a Thursday, Thursday routes are picked up on Friday, and Friday routes are picked up on Saturday.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste follows the exact same shift as garbage and recycling during holiday weeks.
For holidays that fall on a Saturday or Sunday, there are no delays to the weekday collection schedule.

Pizza Box Etiquette
You can recycle pizza boxes in Osceola County, but only if they are entirely free of grease and food residue. If the bottom of the box is greasy, rip it off and throw it in the trash, then recycle only the clean top lid.
Ditch the Plastic Bags
Never bag your recyclables. Plastic garbage bags and grocery sacks get caught in the gears of the county recycling facility. Return clean plastic grocery bags to your local supermarket instead.
Keep Needles and Hazards Out
Medical sharps, syringes, and lithium-ion batteries should never go in your curbside bins. They pose severe safety risks to Waste Management workers and can spark fires in the trucks. Utilize the Bass Road facility for hazardous items.

June - NovemberIf a named tropical storm or hurricane is approaching Osceola County, do not put out yard waste, bulk items, or regular bins. High winds can turn these items into dangerous projectiles. Wait until the storm passes and the county announces recovery collection dates.
Post-Holiday Cleanup
December - JanuaryReal Christmas trees can be collected on your normal yard waste day. However, all lights, tinsel, ornaments, and stands must be completely removed first, or the truck will leave the tree at the curb.

Buenaventura Lakes (often referred to locally as BVL) is an unincorporated community in Osceola County. Because of this, residential waste collection is managed directly by Osceola County Solid Waste in partnership with Waste Management. Residents are provided with automated curbside collection once a week for household garbage, recycling, and yard waste. To ensure your route runs smoothly, bins must be placed within three feet of the curb by 6:00 AM on your designated collection day.
Important Update: Glass Recycling is Banned
Osceola County recently updated its recycling guidelines, and it is vital for BVL residents to know that glass is no longer accepted in curbside recycling carts. Glass shatters during transit, contaminating perfectly good bales of paper and cardboard while damaging the sorting machinery. All glass bottles and jars must now be thrown into your household garbage cart or taken to a specialized drop-off center.
Managing Yard Debris After a Florida Storm
Maintaining a tropical landscape means dealing with constant growth and storm debris. Waste Management allows BVL residents to place up to 3 cubic yards (about the size of two washing machines) or 10 bags/containers of yard waste at the curb each week. Branches must be cut to four feet or less in length and cannot exceed six inches in diameter. Bundling branches with twine is highly encouraged to keep the neighborhood clean and speed up collection.
