General Rule
There is no collection on these five observed holidays. Collection service will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week, with Saturday acting as a make-up day for Friday routes.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste and bulk item collections follow the exact same holiday delay schedule as standard household garbage.
Holidays not listed here (such as Memorial Day or Veterans Day) do not interrupt service. Have your carts at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on those days.

Keep the Carpet Out of Bulk
While WM generously picks up up to four large bulk items per week, carpet and rugs are explicitly excluded from curbside collection. Do not place rolled carpet on the curb, as it will be tagged and left behind.
Say No to Bagged Recyclables
Never use plastic garbage bags to hold your recyclables. Bagged items are treated as trash at the sorting facility because workers cannot see what is inside, and plastic film jams the sorting screens.
Retire Your Personal Yard Bins
With the transition to automated collection, resident-owned personal garbage cans are obsolete for curbside pickup. Crews will only service the official county-issued 95-gallon yard waste cart.

Post-Holiday Schedule Shifts

In late 2025, unincorporated areas of Indian River County, including Vero Beach South, officially transitioned to a Universal Curbside Collection Service managed by Waste Management (WM). Gone are the days of setting up individual household trash subscriptions. Instead, once-a-week collection for carted trash, recycling, and yard waste is now conveniently included in your annual non-ad valorem property tax assessment.
Strict Automated Cart Placement Guidelines
The universal system relies heavily on automated truck arms to efficiently lift the county-issued 95-gallon garbage and yard waste carts, as well as the 65-gallon recycling carts. To ensure your waste is successfully collected, Vero Beach South residents must place their carts at least three feet apart from each other and three feet away from mailboxes, trees, and vehicles. All carts must be positioned at the curb no later than 6:00 a.m. on your assigned service day.
Weekly Bulk Item Pick-Up Perks
One of the biggest upgrades to the solid waste program is the inclusion of weekly bulk trash removal at no extra out-of-pocket cost. Each residential unit is allowed to set out up to four bulk items per week alongside their regular household garbage. This covers major white goods, old furniture, BBQ grills, lawn equipment, and even up to four vehicle tires (measuring under 25 inches).
Specific Rules for Yard Waste Containerization
Landscaping debris must be handled meticulously under the new guidelines. All small branches, grass clippings, and leaves must be placed entirely inside the designated 95-gallon yard waste cart. Small loose piles on the ground are strictly prohibited and will be ignored by crews. The only flexible caveat is that the lid of the yard waste cart does not need to be completely closed if longer branches are slightly protruding.
