All bagged materials must fit inside your 95-gallon trash cart with the lid fully closed. Excess bags left on the ground will not be collected.

65-gallon WM Recycling Cart Bin (Recycling)
Absolutely no bagging of recyclables. Items must be placed loosely inside the recycling cart. Clean and dry all containers before tossing them in.

Yard Waste Bin
Yard waste must be placed inside the 95-gallon yard waste cart. No small piles on the ground are permitted, and resident-owned personal containers will not be serviced. The lid does not need to be closed.

Have bulk items at the curb no later than 6:00 a.m. Keep all bulk items at least three feet away from your automated carts to ensure the truck's mechanical arm is not blocked.

Up to four standard bulk items are included in your annual assessment. Bulk yard waste that does not fit in your cart can be scheduled for an additional fee of $25 per cubic yard.

General Rule
There is no collection on these five observed holidays. Collection service will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week, with Saturday acting as a make-up day for Friday routes.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste and bulk item collections follow the exact same holiday delay schedule as standard household garbage.
Holidays not listed here (such as Memorial Day or Veterans Day) do not interrupt service. Have your carts at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on those days.

May to AugustDuring heavy pruning months, if your yard waste exceeds the capacity of your 95-gallon cart, you cannot simply make a pile on the grass. You must haul excess debris to a Customer Convenience Center or call WM to schedule a special pickup for $25 per cubic yard.
Post-Holiday Schedule Shifts
Late November to JanuaryThanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day trigger a one-day delay in all solid waste services. If your normal collection day is Thursday, it will slide to Friday, and Friday routes will be completed on Saturday.

Do I still need a Waste Management subscription in Vero Beach South?
No. As of October 2025, unincorporated Indian River County transitioned to a Universal Curbside Collection Service. The cost for weekly trash, recycling, and yard waste is now included directly in your annual non-ad valorem property taxes.
Can I put extra yard waste in my own garbage cans?
No. Waste Management will only service the official 95-gallon yard waste carts provided by the county. Resident-owned personal containers left at the curb will be ignored by the collection crews.
Does the county pick up old carpets?
No. While WM picks up to four large bulk items per week for free, carpets and rugs are explicitly excluded from curbside bulk collection. You must haul these directly to the county landfill.
