Pro Tip / Discount

Green Bin (Trash)
Place your green cart at the curb prior to 5:30 AM on your regular collection day. Do not overfill the cart; the lid must be able to close to prevent litter and deter local wildlife.

Use standard 32-gallon garbage cans or yard waste bags (compostable paper preferred) weighing no more than 40 lbs each. Cut limbs to a maximum of 6 feet in length and 40 lbs, arranged in piles no larger than 6' W x 6' D x 6' H. Max 20 bags/cans per week.

Bulk pickup is a free service included for ECUA Residential Sanitation customers. Note that privately contracted tree trimmers and builders are legally required to haul away their own debris.
Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If your collection day falls on one of the observed holidays, your pickup will be delayed by one day. All subsequent collections that week will also be pushed back by one day, concluding on Saturday.
Yard Waste Exception
During holiday weeks with high garbage volumes, yard waste collections may experience minor delays as crews prioritize standard household trash.
ECUA typically only suspends residential collection on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. All other holidays usually follow a normal schedule.

March - MayAs residents spruce up their yards for spring, yard waste volumes surge. ECUA crews may run behind schedule on heavy weekends. If your yard waste isn't picked up on its scheduled day, leave it at the curb; trucks will complete the route by Saturday.

June - NovemberIn the event of an approaching tropical storm or hurricane, secure all green and blue carts indoors or in a garage. Do not place yard waste piles at the curb if high winds are forecast, as they can become dangerous projectiles or clog storm drains.
Winter Holidays
November - JanuaryAfter holiday shopping, you may have massive amounts of cardboard. Instead of cramming it into your blue bin, you can utilize the ECUA Bulk Recycling Program by flattening the boxes and calling to schedule a special pickup.

Escambia County Ordinance Sec. 82-145 legally requires privately employed tree surgeons, builders, and contractors to remove all debris they generate. ECUA will not pick up tree trunks, concrete, or massive limb piles generated by commercial contractors.
I don't want to recycle. Can I get a second trash can instead?
Yes. Participation in the single-stream recycling program is entirely voluntary in unincorporated Escambia County. If you prefer, you can call ECUA and request to exchange your blue recycling cart for a second green garbage cart at no additional charge.
