Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If a designated holiday falls on a Sunday or Monday, Monday pickups will be delayed by exactly one day, shifting to Tuesday.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste follows the exact same holiday delay schedule as normal trash during the active April-November season.
If a holiday falls on a Saturday, standard Monday service is unaffected.

Avoid Plastic Grocery Bags
Never place your recyclables inside plastic grocery bags. The sorting equipment at Homewood Disposal's facility gets easily jammed by plastic film. Place all recyclables loose in your green cart.
Keep Styrofoam Out (#6 Plastic)
Even though Frankfort accepts a very wide range of plastics (#1 through #7), number 6 plastics (polystyrene/Styrofoam) are strictly prohibited and belong in your brown garbage cart.
Sticker Your Yard Waste
Don't forget that grass clippings and leaves cannot go into your normal trash under Illinois law. They must be in Kraft paper bags with a purchased Village of Frankfort yard waste sticker affixed.

Village Partnership with Homewood Disposal
Residents of the Village of Frankfort have their curbside garbage, recycling, and yard waste managed by Homewood Disposal (also operating as NuWay Disposal) [2.1.1]. Every incorporated household is billed monthly on their village utility bill and provided with a brown 95-gallon cart for trash and a green 95-gallon cart for recycling. Pickups take place every Monday, and carts should be set out by 6:30 a.m., but no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the previous Sunday.
Clean Air Natural Gas Trucks
Homewood Disposal services Frankfort using a modern fleet of natural gas-powered collection trucks. These specialized vehicles operate quieter than traditional diesel garbage trucks, generate significantly fewer carbon emissions, and reflect the community’s commitment to environmentally responsible waste management. Since three separate trucks stagger pick-ups for trash, recycling, and yard waste throughout Monday, residents should keep all containers out until they are individually emptied.
Expanded #1-7 Plastics Recycling
Frankfort’s curbside recycling program utilizes a single-stream format where residents can place all eligible materials directly into their green carts. Thanks to an advanced Material Recovery Facility operated by NuWay, residents can recycle a wide spectrum of plastics labeled #1 through #7. The only major exception is #6 plastic (polystyrene/Styrofoam), which must be thrown in the standard garbage cart.
One Free Bulk Item Per Week
A highly beneficial feature of Frankfort’s municipal contract is the weekly bulk item allowance. Each household is permitted to place one large item—such as a piece of furniture, a mattress, or a rolled-up rug—alongside their brown trash cart every Monday at no additional charge. Appliances and electronic waste are banned from this service and require special alternative disposal methods.
