Seasonal Information

Winter Holidays

December to January

Refuse volume typically spikes by 25% during the holidays. Annapolis offers 'Treecycling'—simply remove all lights and decorations, cut trees larger than 6 feet in half, and place them at the curb on your yard trim day.

Fall

October to November

Do not put autumn pumpkins in your yard trim cart at the end of the season. The City recommends utilizing the local food scrap drop-off program or a backyard compost bin. Also, never rake your leaves into the street or storm drains.

Year-Round

January to December

Stormwater runoff is a major focus for Annapolis. Leaving grass clippings on your lawn helps them break down quickly and increases stormwater infiltration. Keep storm drain inlets completely clear of yard debris.

Turn Your Scrap into Cash in Annapolis!

Got some old metal items hanging around your yard in Annapolis? Instead of tossing them, think about a scrap yard! Frequently Asked Questions

How many bulk items can I throw away each week in Annapolis?

Annapolis residents can place up to three (3) non-metal bulk items—such as furniture, mattresses, or a television—at the curb on their regular refuse collection day without calling ahead.

How do I dispose of a refrigerator or metal appliance in Annapolis?

Metal bulk items like washers, dryers, lawnmowers, and refrigerators require a scheduled pickup. You must call Annapolis DPW at 410-263-7949 to arrange a date. By law, you must remove the doors from refrigerators and freezers before placing them outside.

What do the colored warning tags on my bins mean?

The City of Annapolis uses Pink Tags for trash violations (such as unbagged refuse), Green Tags for recycling contamination (like throwing plastic bags in the blue cart), and Orange Tags for improper yard trim. If your bin is tagged, fix the listed issue and put it out on your next collection day.

Does the City of Annapolis provide trash and recycling containers?

The City provides one blue 64-gallon cart for recycling and one green 64-gallon cart for yard trim per residence. However, residents are responsible for providing their own durable, tight-lidded trash containers (up to 32 gallons) and must mark them with 3-inch house numbers.
