Holiday Schedule
General Rule
Prince George's County uses a 'slide' schedule for observed holidays. If your collection day falls on or after a holiday, your pickup will shift one day later for the rest of that week, concluding with Saturday collections.
Yard Waste Exception
Because organics and food scraps are collected on Mondays, a holiday falling on a Monday will slide yard waste collections to Tuesday.
Appointments for scrap tires and white goods are not scheduled on observed holidays.

Seasonal Information
Summer
June to OctoberTo beat the heat, crews start collections at 5:00 a.m. instead of 6:00 a.m. Set your trash, recycling, and yard waste carts at the curb after 6:00 p.m. the night before your scheduled day to ensure you don't miss the truck.
Autumn
October to DecemberDuring peak leaf-fall season, never use plastic bags for your leaves. All excess foliage must be packed in heavy-duty paper yard bags and set out for Monday organics collection.
Winter
December to FebruaryInclement weather such as snow and ice may trigger the county's severe weather policy. If collections are delayed or canceled, the SWMD will typically implement a slide schedule. Check the PGC311 app for real-time alerts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does East Riverdale have its own municipal trash service?
No. Because East Riverdale is an unincorporated area, residential waste management is handled entirely by the Prince George's County Sustainable Waste Management Division (SWMD).
How do I get rid of an old refrigerator or air conditioner?
While standard furniture can be placed curbside without notice, large appliances (known as white goods) and scrap tires still require a special appointment. You must call PGC311 or submit a request online to schedule their removal.
What should I do if my county-issued trash or recycling cart breaks?
If your wheeled toter is damaged or missing, you can request a repair or replacement through the PGC311 portal. Be aware that if your cart was confiscated by an inspector for being left at the curb for more than 48 hours after collection, it will not be replaced for free.
Does the county offer assistance for elderly or disabled residents?
Yes. Residents who are physically unable to roll their carts to the curb, and who do not have anyone else living in the home to help, can apply for the On-Premises Waste Collection service. This requires a signed note from a physician to verify eligibility.
