General Rule
When a holiday occurs on a weekday (Tuesday-Friday), collection for the holiday and remaining days of that week is delayed by one day.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste runs on the same holiday delay schedule during its active season.
Holidays that fall on a Monday do NOT delay collection. On the service day immediately following an observed holiday, residents may place extra bags of household garbage or collapsed cardboard next to their cart.

Never Bag Your Recyclables
Keep your recycling loose in the cart. Plastic grocery bags can jam the sorting machinery at the Southfield Materials Recovery Facility, leading to entire loads being sent to the landfill.
Keep Hazardous Waste Out of Carts
Items like paint, harsh chemicals, car batteries, and electronics are strictly prohibited in both your trash and recycling bins. Save these items for the Oakland County NoHaz Collection Events.
Respect the Lid Limit
Do not overfill your rolling carts. The lid must close completely for the automated arm on the WM trucks to safely lift and empty the container. Overflowing materials will not be collected.
