Holiday Schedule
General Rule
When an observed holiday falls on a weekday, trash and recycling services are suspended for that day, and all subsequent pickups for the remainder of that week will be delayed by one day.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste follows the exact same holiday delay schedule and will be picked up one day later along with your regular trash.
If a holiday falls on a weekend, your collection schedule usually remains unaffected. Always check the Mint Hill website for the official holiday calendar.

!Contamination Tips
Never Bag Your Recyclables
Keep all recyclables loose in your blue bin. Plastic bags get tangled in the sorting machines at the recycling center. If you collect your recycling in a bag inside your home, empty the items into the blue bin and throw the bag in the regular trash.
Keep Hazardous Waste Out of Bins
Old paint cans, household chemicals, and batteries are strictly prohibited from curbside pickup. You must take these items to a Mecklenburg County Solid Waste drop-off facility to protect the local water supply.
No E-Waste at the Curb
Old computers, televisions, and electronics contain toxic heavy metals and cannot be thrown into your standard garbage or recycling carts. Take them to the Hickory Grove Full Service Recycling Center for proper disposal.
Seasonal Information
Winter
December to JanuaryChristmas trees measuring 4 to 6 feet can be collected with your regular yard waste on your normal trash day. If your tree is larger than 6 feet, you must cut it in half. Metal or artificial trees require a special pickup call to Waste Pro.
Fall
October to DecemberDuring peak leaf-falling season, remember that Mint Hill does not use loose leaf vacuum trucks. All leaves must be bagged or placed in cans, subject to the strict limit of 10 bags or cans per household per week.
Spring/Summer
March to AugustWhen undertaking major landscaping or storm cleanup, do not place more than one pile of limbs (max 4 feet high, 4 feet wide, and 5 feet long) at the curb. Excessive yard waste will not be picked up by Waste Pro.
About Mint Hill Waste Management
Mint Hill's Partnership with Waste Pro
The Town of Mint Hill contracts exclusively with Waste Pro to manage residential garbage, recycling, and yard waste [1.1.1]. Collections run from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., so residents must ensure their bins are at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on their scheduled day. However, town ordinances require that you do not place carts by the street any earlier than 7:00 p.m. on the evening before your collection.
Bi-Weekly Blue Bin Recycling
Mint Hill operates on a bi-weekly recycling schedule, dividing the town into 'A' (Red) and 'B' (Blue) weeks. All recyclables must be placed in your blue cart completely loose. Bagging your recyclables in plastic garbage bags is strictly prohibited, as the plastic bags jam the sorting machinery at the Mecklenburg County processing facilities.
Strict Yard Waste Volume Limits
While yard waste is collected weekly alongside regular trash, Waste Pro enforces strict limits on the volume of organic material. Residents can place a maximum of 10 bags or cans of grass clippings and leaves per week. For limbs and brush, you are limited to a single pile measuring no more than 4 feet high, 4 feet wide, and 5 feet long. Any yard debris exceeding these exact limits will not be serviced.
No Free Curbside Bulk Pickup
Unlike some neighboring municipalities, Mint Hill does not offer free curbside collection for large bulky items like couches, mattresses, or stoves. If you need a bulky item removed from your curb, you must call Waste Pro directly to schedule and pay for the special service out-of-pocket. Alternatively, residents can haul these items themselves to the Hickory Grove Disposal & Recycling Center.
Special Safety Requirements for Sharp Objects
To protect Waste Pro sanitation crews, Mint Hill requires residents to take extra precautions with specific types of dangerous household waste. If you must throw away broken glass or television tubes in your regular trash, the town mandates that these items be securely wrapped in thick paper or cardboard to prevent accidental lacerations during collection.
