!Contamination Tips

Keep Plastic Bags Out of the Cart

The number one contaminant in Massillon's recycling stream is plastic grocery bags. They cannot be processed curbside and will tangle the sorting gears. Return them to local Stark County grocery stores instead.

When in Doubt, Throw it Out

If you are unsure whether an item is recyclable, it is better to put it in the trash. 'Wish-cycling' ruins batches of good recyclables and increases costs for the city.

Flatten That Cardboard

Cardboard boxes take up significant space. Break down and flatten all boxes to ensure they fit loosely inside the recycling cart, which allows the automated trucks to empty them efficiently.

Seasonal Information

Winter

December - February

Heavy Lake Effect snow can occasionally delay collection. If roads in Massillon are impassable, Kimble will typically delay service by one day. Keep carts clear of snowbanks so automated arms can reach them.

Autumn

October - November

The City of Massillon generally provides a seasonal leaf collection program. Rake leaves to the curb (not into the street) according to the zone schedule published by the Street Department.

Spring

April - May

Spring cleaning often results in extra trash. Remember you are allowed one bulk item per week. If you have a massive clean-out, consider renting a roll-off dumpster directly from Kimble.

About Massillon Waste Management

Comprehensive Solid Waste Management in the City of Champions

Massillon, Ohio, proudly known as the City of Champions, maintains a robust and reliable municipal waste collection system. Contracted exclusively through Kimble Recycling & Disposal, residential trash and recycling services are designed to keep Stark County clean and environmentally sustainable. Every resident is provided with standardized carts, ensuring that curbside collection is efficient, safe, and visually appealing across all neighborhoods.

Single-Stream Curbside Recycling Protocols

To support Stark County's diversion goals, Massillon offers bi-weekly single-stream recycling. This means residents do not need to separate paper, plastics, and metals; they all go into the designated Kimble recycling cart. However, achieving a low contamination rate is essential. Residents are urged to rinse out food containers and avoid wish-cycling items like plastic grocery bags, which jam processing machinery.

Navigating Bulk Item Disposal in Massillon

Disposing of large household items doesn't have to be a hassle. Massillon's contract allows residents to place one bulk item at the curb each week on their regular trash collection day at no additional charge. Whether it is a piece of broken furniture or a worn-out mattress (which must be wrapped in plastic), this convenient service helps prevent illegal dumping and keeps local alleyways clear.

Handling Yard Waste and Seasonal Debris

Maintaining Massillon's beautiful tree-lined streets requires proper yard waste management. Grass clippings, leaves, and small twigs must be bagged or bundled correctly according to Kimble's guidelines. During the autumn months, the city often coordinates dedicated leaf pickup schedules, helping residents manage the heavy foliage characteristic of Northeast Ohio's changing seasons.
