Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If your scheduled service day falls on or after a weekday holiday, your pickup will be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week.
Yard Waste Exception
Yard waste is strictly event-based in Spring and Fall and is not impacted by standard weekly holiday schedules.
If a major holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, there is no delay for residential trash and recycling pickup.

!Contamination Tips
Ditch the Plastic Bags
Never bag your recyclables. Thin plastic films like grocery bags wrap around the sorting gears at the Republic Services facility, causing mechanical shutdowns and safety hazards.
Keep Glass Out of the Curb Bin
While technically recyclable, glass breaks easily during transit and embeds itself into paper and cardboard. Take your glass jars and bottles to Murrysville's Pop-Up events or Westmoreland Cleanways instead.
The Empty and Dry Rule
A half-full soda can or unrinsed peanut butter jar can ruin an entire bin of clean paper. Give all your plastics and metals a quick rinse and shake them dry before recycling.

About Murrysville Waste Management
Flexible Refuse Billing: Unlimited vs. The Sticker Program
Murrysville mandates trash collection for all residences, but it is not funded through local taxes. Homeowners must independently set up an account with Republic Services. You can choose a standard quarterly invoice for unlimited weekly household trash, or, if your household generates minimal waste, you can opt for the Murrysville Trash Sticker Program. Under this cost-saving system, residents purchase sheets of stickers at the Municipal Building and simply attach one sticker to each bag placed at the curb.
Free Curbside HHW and E-Waste Collection
One of the most valuable perks of the Murrysville waste program is the door-side collection for Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Electronic Waste (E-Waste). Unlike many municipalities that force you to drive to a county facility, Murrysville residents can call Republic Services to request a free collection kit and schedule a pickup right from their home. This covers items like old televisions, paint thinners, pesticides, and alkaline batteries.
Bi-Weekly Single-Stream Recycling
Recycling in Murrysville is handled by Republic Services on a bi-weekly basis. The unlimited recycling program encourages residents to divert as much waste from the landfill as possible. However, because Pennsylvania strictly regulates electronics and certain hazardous items, these must never be placed in the standard curbside recycling bins. Always ensure your plastics, paper, and metal cans are loose, clean, and unbagged.
Seasonal Curbside Leaf Collection
Yard waste is not collected on a standard weekly schedule in Murrysville. Instead, the municipality organizes a dedicated Curbside Leaf Collection Program during the Spring and Fall. Residents must actively register for a pickup date via the municipal website or phone. You are allowed up to 20 biodegradable bags of leaves per pickup, and any accompanying brush must be neatly tied into bundles.
Pop-Up Glass Recycling Events
Because broken glass poses a significant contamination risk to paper and cardboard in single-stream recycling, Murrysville regularly hosts 'Pop-Up' Glass Recycling events at the Veterans Field parking lot. Residents are encouraged to save their glass bottles, jars, and jugs (all colors accepted, empty with caps/lids) and drop them off at these events to ensure the glass is properly recovered and repurposed.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Murrysville Trash Sticker Program work?
Designed for households that generate very little waste, the sticker program allows you to skip the standard quarterly billing. You can purchase a sheet of 5 stickers for $15 at the Municipal Building on Sardis Road. Simply attach one sticker to each trash bag you place at the curb.
How can I dispose of an old television or computer in Murrysville?
Murrysville offers a highly convenient, free door-side E-Waste and Household Hazardous Waste pickup service. Just contact Republic Services at 877-788-9400 to request a collection kit and schedule a pickup at your home. You can also drop off electronics at Westmoreland Cleanways.
Can I put yard waste or grass clippings in my regular trash bin?
Yard waste should be handled via the municipality's special Spring and Fall Curbside Leaf Collection programs. For these events, you must register in advance and use biodegradable bags. Grass clippings should ideally be mulched or composted, as they are not accepted in the leaf bags.
Does Republic Services pick up large bulk items like couches?
Yes, residents on the standard quarterly or senior billing plans are entitled to dispose of up to two bulk items per month. However, you must call Republic Services ahead of time to notify them so they can ensure adequate space on the truck. Construction debris is not included and may require a fee.
