Holiday Schedule

General Rule

Texas Disposal Systems only observes three major holidays. If your regular collection day falls on or after one of these holidays, your service will slide one day forward for the remainder of that week.

Yard Waste Exception

Saturday bulk pickups are scheduled individually and generally do not occur on major holiday weekends. Verify your confirmed date when submitting the request.

Minor holidays such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day do NOT disrupt the regular collection schedule in Brushy Creek.

!Contamination Tips

Do Not Bag Your Recyclables

Keep all recyclable materials completely loose inside your recycling cart. Placing items inside plastic trash bags will result in your cart being tagged as contaminated, as film plastics tangle the sorting gears at the TDS facility.

Keep the Lid Shut

Brushy Creek strict enforces a 'closed lid' policy. If your trash or recycling cart is overfilled and the lid is propped open, TDS trucks will not service it. Use your weekly six-bag allowance for excess trash instead of overstuffing the cart.

No Nails in Wood Waste

When putting out fencing, pallets, or lumber for your scheduled Saturday bulk pickup, every piece of wood must have all nails and screws completely removed. This protects the collection crews and processing equipment.

Seasonal Information

Autumn

October - November

During heavy leaf-fall, take advantage of the standard weekly service. You can place up to six bags of leaves next to your primary trash cart each week at no extra charge, avoiding the need to schedule a specialized bulk pickup.

Winter

December - January

Post-holiday surges in cardboard are common. Remember that you can set out one bundle of up to 10 flattened boxes (tied with twine) next to your recycling cart without incurring fines or needing a bulk request.

Spring

March - May

Spring cleaning is the perfect time to use one of your two allotted Saturday bulk pickups. Ensure you submit your request form via the Brushy Creek MUD website by noon on Thursday to guarantee a slot for the weekend.

About Brushy Creek Waste Management

Generous Extra Bag Allowances with TDS

Brushy Creek MUD residents enjoy a highly accommodating weekly trash service provided by Texas Disposal Systems (TDS). Beyond the standard 96-gallon garbage cart, residents are permitted to place up to six additional bags or bundles of refuse or yard waste at the curb each week at no extra cost. However, these extra items will only be collected if your primary trash cart is also present at the curb.

Strict Cart Placement and Weight Guidelines

To ensure safe and efficient automated collections, Brushy Creek mandates that all carts weigh no more than 75 pounds and have their lids completely closed. An overfilled cart with an open lid will not be serviced. Carts must be positioned 'wheels-to-curb' with at least five feet of clearance from vehicles, mailboxes, and low-hanging branches by 7:00 a.m. on your designated service day.

On-Demand Saturday Bulk Pickups

Instead of pre-scheduled neighborhood sweeps, Brushy Creek offers a flexible, on-demand bulk item service. Every residential utility account is entitled to two free bulk or brush waste pickups per calendar year, exclusively scheduled on Saturdays. Homeowners must submit their requests online by 12:00 p.m. on Thursday to secure a spot for the upcoming Saturday route.

Unique Rules for Fence Panels and Carpets

If you are remodeling or updating your landscaping, Brushy Creek’s bulk pickup has specific requirements for specialized materials. Fence slats must be completely free of nails, cut to four-foot lengths, and ideally bundled in stacks of five. Similarly, old carpet can be collected if it is cut, rolled into bundles no longer than four feet and two feet in diameter, and limited to a maximum of 10 rolls per request.

Managing Excess Cardboard Effectively

While recycling is collected every other week and no extra bags of recyclables are permitted outside the cart, TDS provides an exception for cardboard. Residents are allowed to place one bundle of up to 10 flattened and broken-down cardboard boxes next to their recycling cart. The bundle must be securely tied together with twine or packing tape to prevent wind-blown litter.
