!Contamination Tips
Bag Your Trash, Not Your Recycling
Place all household garbage in securely tied plastic bags before tossing them in your green-lidded cart. For your yellow-lidded recycling cart, place items completely loose, as standard opaque plastic bags will jam the sorting facility's equipment.
Keep Materials Inside the Carts
Waste Management's automated trucks will only service materials properly placed inside the provided carts with the lids fully closed. Any loose trash bags, broken down cardboard, or excess debris left on top of or beside the carts will be ignored.
Don't Mix Hazardous Waste
Never place wet paint, motor oil, batteries, or old electronics in either of your curbside carts or your monthly bulk pile. Utilize the convenient At-Your-Door Special Collection program instead to ensure these items are handled safely.
Seasonal Information
Winter
December - JanuaryFollowing the holidays, Cedar Hill provides a Live Christmas Tree disposal program. Keep an eye on the city's official channels for specific drop-off locations or curbside instructions, and ensure all decorations, lights, and stands are completely removed.
Spring
March - MaySpring cleaning is a perfect time to take advantage of the city's At-Your-Door electronic and hazardous waste service. If you are doing DIY remodeling, remember you can utilize your free quarterly landfill pass in Ferris for up to 3 cubic yards of heavy construction debris.
Summer/Fall
June - NovemberSevere Texas storms can bring down tree limbs. When placing brush out for your monthly 10-cubic-yard bulk collection, ensure it is set at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the Monday of your assigned week, even if you normally receive alleyway service for your carts.
About Cedar Hill Waste Management
Automated Cart Collection System
Cedar Hill partners with Waste Management to provide once-a-week automated trash and recycling services. Residents are issued two 96-gallon carts—one with a green lid for household garbage and one with a yellow lid for recyclables. Because the trucks use mechanical arms, carts must have at least three feet of clearance on all sides and be kept five feet away from cars and mailboxes.
Monthly 10-Cubic-Yard Bulk and Brush Allowance
You don't need to call ahead for standard bulky item disposal in Cedar Hill. Bulk and brush items are collected together in a single pile once per month. Residents can set out up to 10 cubic yards of acceptable materials—like old furniture, bagged leaves, and fence sections—by 7:00 a.m. on the Monday of their assigned collection week.
At-Your-Door Special Collection for Hazardous Waste
Properly disposing of electronics and household chemicals is incredibly easy for Cedar Hill residents. Instead of waiting for a bi-annual drop-off event, you can utilize the At-Your-Door Special Collection Service. Simply request a pickup online or by phone, and WM will mail you a collection kit to safely pack your hazardous materials for a convenient front-porch pickup.
Free Quarterly Landfill Access
If you generate heavy construction debris or have a massive cleanout that exceeds the monthly 10-cubic-yard bulk limit, the city offers a free alternative. Cedar Hill residents can visit the Waste Management landfill in Ferris, Texas, once a quarter at no cost. You can drop off up to 3 cubic yards of fencing, brush, or construction trash by presenting your driver's license and a matching utility bill.
