Trash and Recycling services will slide back one day for the three recognized holidays. If a holiday falls on a weekend or is not one of the three listed, collections proceed on their normal schedule.
Yard Waste Exception
Brush and yard waste bundles placed curbside are subject to the same one-day delay as standard cart collections.
Waste Connections runs normal routes on holidays not listed above, including Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Independence Day.

!Contamination Tips
Keep Pizza Boxes in the Trash
While clean cardboard is highly recyclable, greasy pizza boxes contaminate the paper recycling process. In Fate, pizza boxes are explicitly listed as an accepted item for the green trash cart. Keep them out of the blue bin.
Ditch the Plastic Bags
Never bag your recyclables. Plastic grocery bags and garbage bags tangle the mechanical sorters at the recycling facility. Keep all your permitted recyclables completely loose in the blue 95-gallon cart.
Glass Exclusions
Pay close attention to glass items. Broken glass, ceramics, window glass, and mirrors are completely unacceptable in the blue recycling cart and must be safely disposed of in your household trash.
Seasonal Information
Spring
March - MaySpring cleaning is simplified by the allowance of one bulk item per trash day. However, if your spring cleanout exceeds the one-item limit or the 50-pound weight restriction, remember to contact Waste Connections directly for an estimate.
Summer
June - AugustDuring peak lawn care season, ensure that grass clippings placed in your green trash cart do not make up more than 50% of its volume. Do not overstuff the cart; the lid must remain completely closed for the driver to service it.
Winter
December - FebruaryIn the event of severe ice storms or winter weather that halts collection trucks, Waste Connections may delay or cancel routes. The City of Fate typically communicates all inclement weather impacts and service adjustments on their official Facebook page.
About Fate Waste Management
Navigating Fate's Trash and Recycling Partnership
The City of Fate partners with Waste Connections to handle weekly residential waste collection. Each household is issued a green 95-gallon cart for trash and a blue 95-gallon cart for recycling. What makes Fate's program uniquely accommodating is the allowance for overflow: residents can place up to 10 additional 30-gallon trash bags (up to 35 lbs each) curbside alongside their green cart on collection day without incurring any extra fees.
Simplified Weekly Bulk Item Collection
Unlike many municipalities that require scheduled appointments for a single piece of furniture, Fate allows residents to place ONE bulk item curbside per regular trash day without making a phone call. To qualify for this automatic pickup, the item must be under 50 pounds and shorter than 48 inches. However, for massive home cleanouts, or to dispose of appliances containing Freon (which must be tagged by a licensed technician), you must contact Waste Connections directly to arrange a customized pickup.
Brush and Yard Waste Policies
Yard waste disposal offers multiple avenues depending on the project size. Everyday grass clippings can go directly into your green trash cart, provided yard waste does not exceed 50% of the cart's total contents. For larger pruning jobs, residents can set out up to 10 standard kitchen-sized bags of brush or 4 tied bundles of limbs (max 48 inches in length and 1 cubic yard per bundle). If a landscape project generates more than four cubic yards of debris, residents must call Waste Connections for a collection estimate.
Convenient Doorstep Hazardous Waste Pickups
Disposing of hazardous materials is exceptionally easy in Fate thanks to a partnership with HHW Solutions. Instead of driving to a remote drop-off facility, residents are offered doorstep pickup on the first Tuesday of every month. By simply scheduling their service online ahead of the deadline, residents can leave pesticides, chemicals, paint, and electronic waste on their front porch before 8:00 AM for safe, compliant removal.
Strict Cart Placement and Lid Requirements
Waste Connections utilizes automated lifting arms to service bins efficiently. Because of this mechanical process, proper cart placement is heavily enforced. Bins must be on the curb by 6:00 AM with the wheels facing the residence. Crucially, cart lids must be completely closed—overstuffed bins with propped-open lids will not be serviced. Furthermore, residents must leave at least a 3-foot gap between carts, bulk items, and brush, and a 5-foot gap from parked vehicles and mailboxes.

Are extra trash bags allowed outside my bin?
Yes, on your regular trash day, you may place up to 10 additional 30-gallon bags of household trash at the curb. Each extra bag must weigh no more than 35 pounds.
Why was my green trash cart skipped this week?
Your cart may have been skipped if it was not placed out by 6:00 AM, if the lid was propped open and not completely closed, or if it was placed too close to a vehicle, mailbox, or bulk item. Waste Connections' automated trucks require a minimum of 3 feet of clearance around the cart.
