Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If your pick-up falls on an observed holiday, your garbage will not be delayed by one day; instead, it will simply be picked up on your next regularly scheduled service day for your neighborhood.
Yard Waste Exception
Heavy trash and yard waste collections follow the exact same holiday skip schedule as regular garbage, resuming on your next zone day.
AmeriWaste routes run normally on all other holidays not explicitly listed above, including Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day.

Flatten Every Single Box
Cardboard takes up an immense amount of space in the collection trucks. AmeriWaste requires all cardboard boxes to be completely flattened before recycling. Unbroken boxes will be left at the curb uncollected.
Keep Plastic Grocery Bags Out
Never place standard opaque plastic grocery bags in your 48-gallon recycling cart. If you must use bags for excess recycling overflow, League City rules require them to be clear or clear-blue plastic so drivers can verify the contents.
Styrofoam is Trash
While League City accepts a wide range of plastics (numbers 1 through 7), Number 6 plastic—commonly known as Polystyrene or Styrofoam—is strictly prohibited. Coffee cups, foam packaging, and takeout containers must go in your bagged household garbage.

Bring Your Own Trash Can

Twice-Weekly Service Zones
League City is divided into three primary collection zones to maximize AmeriWaste's efficiency. Heavy Trash and Yard Waste Flexibility
Residents enjoy frequent bulk disposal, as heavy trash and yard waste are collected on both of your designated weekly pickup days. You can set out up to two bulky items (like furniture or appliances) per collection day. For yard trimmings, the city enforces a strict limit of six items total—meaning any combination of yard waste bags and tied brush bundles cannot exceed six per pickup.
Strict Freon and Appliance Regulations
If you are discarding an old refrigerator, freezer, or window air conditioning unit as part of your heavy trash allowance, AmeriWaste will not touch it unless the Freon has been legally removed. A licensed HVAC technician or plumber must evacuate the refrigerant and attach a visible certification tag, complete with their license number and date of service, before you place the appliance at the curb.
Options for Household Hazardous Waste
Hazardous materials like paint, pool chemicals, and old televisions cannot go in your curbside bins. League City hosts two free Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop-off events annually at Hometown Heroes Park (Spring and Fall). Year-round, residents can make an appointment at the Stella Roberts Recycling Center in Pearland, though disposal fees of $1.50 per pound for chemicals currently apply to League City residents.
