State Mandate

Bag all trash to prevent pests.

Dark gray cart with a green lid (96-gallon) Bin (Trash)

Place the cart at the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. on your collection day, or after 6:00 p.m. the evening prior. Total contents must not weigh more than 175 pounds. Remove carts from the street by the end of the day.

Accepted Items

  • Bagged household garbage
  • Food waste
  • Non-recyclable plastics
  • Bagged green waste (if lid closes completely)

96-gallon recycling cart Bin (Recycling)

  • Brush tied in bundles
  • Bagged green waste

Not Accepted

Bulk collection up to 2 cubic yards is included with standard residential service. Over-limit piles or construction debris will require private haul-off.

Holiday Schedule

General Rule

Frontier Waste Solutions observes only three major holidays. If your scheduled service falls on one of these holidays, you will be serviced on your next regularly scheduled service day (e.g., Thursday routes move to Monday).

Yard Waste Exception

Bulk and brush collection schedules follow the exact same skipping logic as the residential trash carts.

The Stella Roberts Recycling Center operates on a separate schedule and is typically closed on all major holidays, as well as Sundays and Mondays.

!Contamination Tips

Do Not Bag Your Recyclables

The most common recycling mistake in Pearland is placing cans and paper inside plastic garbage bags. The sorting facility cannot process tied bags, meaning your recyclables will likely be sent to the landfill as contamination.

Respect the Brush Dimension Limits

When putting out tree limbs for bulk collection, they must be tied into manageable bundles. Frontier Waste strictly enforces size limits: limbs cannot be more than 4 inches thick or 49 inches long. Oversized tree trunks will not be collected.

Keep HHW Out of the Carts

Never place paint, motor oil, fertilizers, or pool chemicals in your dark gray or recycling carts. These materials cause dangerous truck fires. Take them to the Stella Roberts Recycling Center on Fridays or Saturdays instead.

Seasonal Information

Summer/Fall

June - November

During the height of hurricane season, residents can purchase self-fill ($5) or pre-filled ($10) sandbags at the Stella Roberts Recycling Center. If a major storm is approaching, secure all curbside carts and do not put bulk waste out, as it can become a dangerous projectile.

Spring

March - May

Keep Pearland Beautiful frequently hosts secure document shredding events in the spring. Residents can text 'SHRED' to 281-868-3390 to receive automated notifications about the next scheduled community shred day.

Winter

November - January

Holiday schedules will disrupt service if your pickup falls on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. Remember that Pearland uses a 'next scheduled day' rule rather than pushing service back by 24 hours.

About Pearland Waste Management

Transition to Frontier Waste and Dark Gray Carts

The City of Pearland partners with Frontier Waste Solutions for all residential solid waste collections. Residents use a standardized 96-gallon dark gray cart with a green lid for household garbage. Carts must not exceed a total weight of 175 pounds to prevent tearing or damage. To ensure timely collection, carts must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your designated twice-weekly collection days.

Combined Bulk, Brush, and Yard Waste Strategy

Pearland streamlines its heavy trash operations by collecting bulky furniture, bundled brush, and bagged green waste on the same designated collection day. Residents are permitted up to two cubic yards of debris per pickup, which is roughly equivalent to 12 to 15 large outdoor bags or an area measuring 6ft x 3ft x 3ft. Notably, the city prefers that bagged green waste be placed inside your dark gray trash cart whenever it fits completely with the lid closed.

Strict Refrigerator and White Goods Rules

Getting rid of an old refrigerator or freezer in Pearland requires advance preparation. Frontier Waste Solutions will collect white goods during your regular bulk collection day, but only if all Freon has been legally and safely removed. The appliance must be officially tagged by a licensed HVAC contractor prior to being placed at the curb, or the collection truck will leave it behind.

The Stella Roberts Recycling Center

For items that cannot go into your curbside recycling bin, the Stella Roberts Recycling Center on Magnolia Parkway is an essential community resource. Operated by the nonprofit Keep Pearland Beautiful, this facility is completely free for Pearland residents. It accepts sorted household hazardous waste (HHW) exclusively on Fridays and Saturdays, along with electronics, batteries, and automotive fluids during regular operating hours.

The Next-Scheduled-Day Holiday Rule

Because Pearland operates on a twice-a-week garbage schedule, holiday delays are handled differently than in most Texas cities. If your service falls on one of Frontier Waste’s three observed holidays (New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas), your pickup does not simply slide to the following day. Instead, it is skipped entirely until your next regularly scheduled service day (for example, a Thanksgiving Thursday pickup is serviced the following Monday).

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the holiday trash schedule work in Pearland?

Because Pearland has twice-a-week garbage pickup, if your collection falls on New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas, it does not get pushed to the next day. Instead, it is skipped and collected on your next regularly scheduled service day.

Will Frontier Waste pick up my old refrigerator?

Yes, refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners are accepted as bulk waste. However, they must first have all Freon safely removed and be officially tagged by a licensed HVAC technician before placing them at the curb.

Where can I dispose of household hazardous waste (HHW) like paint and motor oil?

HHW cannot go in your curbside bins. Pearland residents can drop off paint, cleaners, and automotive fluids at the Stella Roberts Recycling Center strictly on Fridays and Saturdays between specific hours. Ensure you bring your Pearland water bill and ID for free access.

What is the limit for bulk trash and brush?

Residents are allowed up to two cubic yards of bulk waste and bundled brush per collection. This is roughly the size of 12 to 15 large outdoor bags or a 6ft by 3ft pile. Limbs must not exceed 4 inches in diameter and 49 inches in length.
