Holiday Schedule

General Rule

If an observed holiday falls on a scheduled service day, your service day will be delayed by one day. All subsequent service days for that week will also be pushed back one day.

Yard Waste Exception

Bulk and brush pickup are collected on the same schedule as regular trash, so they will also be delayed by one day during holiday weeks.

Frontier Waste Solutions makes regular collections on all other holidays not listed. If your normal pickup falls on a non-observed holiday, place your bins out as usual.

!Contamination Tips

Ditch the Black Bags for Yard Waste

Grass clippings and leaves cannot be hidden in black plastic bags. You must use clear plastic bags or brown paper lawn bags so collection crews can easily identify the organic material inside.

No Pizza Boxes or Coated Cardboard

While normal corrugated cardboard is perfectly fine, you must keep grease-soiled pizza boxes and wax-coated cardboard out of your Watauga recycling cart, as the grease and coatings ruin the pulping process.

Keep Tanglers Out of the Cart

Plastic grocery bags and films should never be placed in your 65-gallon recycling cart. Take them back to local grocery store drop-offs instead to prevent them from causing machinery jams at the sorting facility.

Seasonal Information

Fall Leaf Cleanup

October to December

As the trees shed, remember to utilize paper leaf bags or clear plastic bags. You can set out up to 3 cubic yards of bagged leaves and bundled yard waste every week without having to schedule a special pickup.

Holiday Schedule Delays

November to January

Frontier Waste Solutions observes Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Collections falling on or after these dates will shift by one day, meaning a Thursday pickup will be delayed to Friday.

Spring Remodeling

March to May

If you are tackling DIY spring renovations, note that construction debris like concrete, drywall, bricks, and shingles are not accepted in standard bulk pickup. You will need to contact Frontier for a temporary roll-off dumpster.

About Watauga Waste Management

Exclusive Partnership with Frontier Waste Solutions

Watauga's waste management is streamlined through an exclusive franchise agreement with Frontier Waste Solutions. They provide comprehensive services, combining regular household garbage, single-stream recycling, and an impressive weekly bulk and brush pickup—all handled on the exact same service day for maximum convenience.

Weekly 3-Cubic-Yard Bulk Allowance

Unlike many municipalities that restrict bulk collection to once a month, Watauga residents enjoy a highly generous weekly allowance. You can set out up to 3 cubic yards of bulky waste or yard brush every single week without having to call ahead. Just ensure that any items are light enough for one crew member to lift safely into the truck.

Strict Bagging Rules for Leaves and Grass

For yard waste disposal, Watauga enforces specific bagging rules. Residents must use brown paper lawn/leaf bags or clear plastic bags for grass clippings and leaves. Opaque black bags are strictly prohibited for yard waste. These approved bags can be placed inside your trash cart or counted toward your weekly 3-cubic-yard bulk allowance if left at the curb.

House-Side Collection for Disabled Residents

The City of Watauga is committed to ensuring accessibility for all its citizens. Utility customers who are physically disabled and can provide the necessary medical documentation from a physician can request special house-side collection. This accommodation means crews will collect trash and recycling directly from the front garage area rather than requiring the resident to drag carts to the curb.

Avoiding Missed Pickups and Spacing Rules

Because Frontier Waste Solutions uses automated side-loading trucks, the robotic arms require ample space to operate. Carts must be placed at the curb by 6:45 a.m. on your collection day, spaced a minimum of four feet away from mailboxes, trees, or parked cars, and two feet from the street's edge. The cart's lid must be completely closed with the front handle facing your home.
