Placement
Items must be placed out before 8:00 a.m. on the day of your scheduled bulky collection. If you live in a property without a trash enclosure, place items curbside without blocking the street.

Holiday Schedule
General Rule
If the holiday falls on a weekday, service will be postponed by one day for the remainder of the week (e.g., Thursday collections happen on Friday). If the holiday falls on a weekend, collection schedules are usually unaffected.
Yard Waste Exception
All carts (trash, recycling, and organics) strictly follow the same holiday delay schedule.
Minor holidays such as Presidents' Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Veterans Day do not cause service delays.

Handling Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG)
Unlike many cities, Newport Beach allows residents to place cooled fats, oils, and grease into the green organics cart. However, you must first scrape the solidified FOG into a certified compostable bag or a standard paper bag.
Keep Palm Fronds and Pet Waste Out of Organics
Even though they seem like natural materials, palm fronds and pet waste must be placed in your black lid landfill cart. Pet waste carries pathogens, and palm fronds are too fibrous for CR&R's commercial composting facilities to process efficiently.
Rinse Jars and Empty All Liquids
A half-full soda bottle or a jar coated in pasta sauce can ruin a whole bin of clean paper and cardboard. Always empty liquids and rinse residual food out of glass and plastic containers before tossing them in the blue lid recycling cart.

Winter
December - JanuaryCR&R provides curbside Christmas tree collection for a two-week period beginning December 26th. Place your tree at the curb on your normal service day. You must remove all ornaments, lights, and stands, and cut the tree in half if it exceeds 6 feet in height.
Spring
April - MaySpring cleaning is a great time to tackle old chemicals and electronics in your garage. Utilize CR&R's unique door-to-door Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) program to safely dispose of old paint, batteries, and e-waste by calling to schedule a free pickup.
Year-Round
January - DecemberIf your neighborhood's trash collection and street sweeping occur on the exact same day, you must place your carts up on top of the curb (rather than in the gutter) to allow the street sweeper to properly clean the area.

Comprehensive Residential Waste Collection in Newport Beach
In Newport Beach, residential trash, recycling, and organic waste services are managed exclusively by CR&R Environmental Services. To keep the city's scenic coastal neighborhoods pristine, residents are required to utilize a standardized three-cart system. Carts must be placed at the curbside no later than 6:00 a.m. on your designated collection day. To accommodate street sweepers and prevent ocean pollution, carts should be placed side-by-side, approximately one foot apart, and at least three feet from any obstructions like parked cars or fire hydrants.

Maximizing Your Annual Bulky Item Pickups
For large household items that cannot fit inside the standard automated containers, Newport Beach residents are entitled to a highly generous bulky waste program. Each household receives five free bulky item pickups per calendar year, with a limit of up to five large items per pickup. This covers old couches, mattresses, washers, and refrigerators. Once you exceed your five free annual pickups, additional requests can be scheduled for a nominal fee of $13.95 per pickup.
